US, Bakersfield: Bakersfield Community Left Without Power Following Hit-and-Run Crash.

Bakersfield, United States - August 19, 2026 08/18/2026 09:50 pm GMT-0700 BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A vehicle crashed into a power pole on Mount Vernon Avenue just north of Columbus Street around 9:50 p.m., severing the pole at its base. The vehicle fled the scene following the crash and has not been located. Debris was scattered across the area, with power lines down across the entire roadway. Transformer boxes were also seen in the street, while the severed power pole came to rest across a nearby yard. The area experienced a power outage for an extended amount of time as the Pacific Gas and Electric Company worked to restore it. The Bakersfield Police Department was working the scene.
