During the gathering in northern Gaza, a marching band and a musical group performed, while Palestinian children held flags representing the home countries of the activists aboard the flotilla. Local artists also created a painting of the vessel to deliver a message of solidarity. Young participants displayed flags alongside banners reading, "Our children's eyes are sailing with you" Suha Mansour, a young local resident, said she joined the demonstration to express her support for the initiative. She noted that the desire to show support was particularly heightened following recent provocations by Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel's far-right National Security Minister. Extending her appreciation, Mansour stated that the flotilla had reached their hearts even if it could not physically arrive, adding her hope for a future visit where the entirety of Gaza would stand ready to welcome them. Malak Saadeddin, a Palestinian poet who recited poetry at the gathering, emphasized the critical need for external solidarity. She expressed deep gratitude to the Global Sumud Flotilla for backing the Palestinian public and standing against what she described as the genocide her people face. Through their display of banners and flags, attendees expressed their alliance with the humanitarian initiative while simultaneously urging the international community to honor its obligations regarding the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The Global Sumud humanitarian aid flotilla said Tuesday that all 50 vessels in its convoy had been seized by Israel following attacks in international waters. The flotilla, carrying 428 people from 44 countries, departed last Thursday from the Turkish district of Marmaris in a new attempt to break the illegal Israeli blockade that has been imposed on Gaza since 2007. Although a ceasefire was reached in Gaza last October, humanitarian access has failed to improve conditions in the enclave, and deadly Israeli attacks have continued. Gaza’s Health Ministry said at least 881 people have been killed and 2,621 injured since the truce took effect. The agreement was intended to halt Israel’s two-year genocidal war on Gaza, which has killed more than 72,000 people, most of them women and children, injured over 172,000 since October 2023, and caused widespread destruction affecting around 90% of the civilian infrastructure.
