QURAN RECITATION DEIR AL-BALAH, PALESTINE - MAY 13, 2026: Fifty couples were married in a mass wedding ceremony held in the blockaded Gaza Strip on Wednesday, May 13, as newlyweds expressed hope for building a future together despite the ongoing hardships caused by the Israeli conflict and siege. The ceremony, held in Deir al-Balah with the support of the Shafaqat Hand Humanitarian Association, was attended by hundreds of people. The mass wedding in Gaza has symbolized resilience and the pursuit of life despite the destruction from Israel’s genocide. Despite a ceasefire that took effect on Oct. 10, Israel continued to violate the agreement and targeted Palestinians outside designated withdrawal zones, causing deaths and injuries. Israeli attacks and gunfire have killed around 856 Palestinians and injured 2,463 others, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. The ceasefire agreement followed two years of genocide in Gaza launched by Israel in October 2023. The Israeli offensive later continued in different forms, killing more than 72,000 Palestinians, injuring over 172,000 others and devastating around 90 percent of civilian infrastructure in Gaza.
