IMAM ABDULKARIM AL-GALBAN SPEAKING TO CAMERAGAZA CITY, PALESTINE - MAY 27, 2026: Hundreds of Palestinians performed Eid al-Adha prayer on Wednesday, May 27, beside the ruins of Al-Huda Mosque, which was destroyed in Israeli attacks in northern Khan Younis. Worshippers gathered in the Jawret al-Akkad area, located less than one kilometer from the so-called “Yellow Line” marking the Israeli boundary. People formed prayer rows among the rubble and around the destroyed mosque to mark the holiday. The prayer was held amid ongoing hardship in Gaza, where many mosques and civilian structures have been damaged or destroyed during Israeli attacks. The holiday commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim, or Abraham, to sacrifice his son at the command of God, before the last-minute divine substitute of a ram. Muslims sacrifice animals in commemoration of this intervention and share the meat with the poor and their relatives.
