ARTISTS WRITING ON THE MURAL GAZA CITY, GAZA, PALESTINE - MAY 19: Palestinian artists in Gaza painted a mural in support of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which sought to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza before being intercepted by Israeli forces. The mural was created as a message of solidarity with flotilla participants who were detained during the mission. Palestinian artist Jumana Jawda said art had become a way to express pain and hope following the death of her mother, adding that the mural was intended to thank those supporting Gaza. "We wanted to thank them because we are not able to thank them through words, so we wanted to thank them by drawing them in the streets of Gaza. We drew them to immortalize the memory that every person who is steadfast, despite everything that happens to them, tries as much as they can to reach the Gaza Strip," she said. Fellow artist Abdulmuati Ashur said the event carried a broader message to international supporters of Gaza. "So we tell them and deliver a message to them in our own way, and express to them how much we love the things they are doing for us. We decided to hold a small activity to show them that they are not alone, and that we stand with them and see what they are doing for Gaza," Ashur said. Child artist Tuleen Abu Jabara, who contributed to the mural alongside her friends, said she reflects her experiences through her drawings. Gaza-bound humanitarian mission Global Sumud Flotilla on Tuesday said that all vessels in its aid convoy had been seized by Israel. The developments came as the Israeli army launched attacks Monday against the aid convoy in international waters. The flotilla, comprising 54 boats, departed on Thursday from the Turkish district of Marmaris in a new attempt to break the illegal Israeli blockade imposed on Gaza since 2007.
