VARIOUS OF COMPLETED MURAL GAZA, PALESTINE - SEPT. 17, 2026: Palestinian artists painted a mural of U.S. rapper Macklemore on the wall of a building destroyed during the Israeli genocide in Gaza, expressing their appreciation for his support for Palestinians and highlighting the suffering of civilians in Gaza. The mural, painted on a wall surrounded by destroyed buildings, depicts Macklemore performing while wrapped in a Palestinian flag and includes the message, “Thank you for using your voice for Palestine.” Palestinian artist Anne Redwan said the artists wanted to thank Macklemore for continuing to show solidarity with Palestinians. “We wanted to thank Macklemore for standing in solidarity with Palestine, especially because he continued to show solidarity with Gaza despite facing insults and backlash from people in his country and elsewhere.” Redwan said artists in Gaza have struggled to find suitable spaces and materials to create art since the war began. She said several artists came together and shared the costs of paint and other materials for the mural. Redwan said the artists hoped the mural would attract the attention of people passing by and provide a different view amid the destruction. “Everything has been bombed and destroyed. People cannot even find places to sit. We wanted to create a painting here to slightly change the scene that people see as they walk through the streets.” Macklemore, 43, was dropped from the remaining US dates of Sheeran’s Loop Tour after using performances at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium to express support for Palestinians. The Grammy-winning rapper wore a keffiyeh, performed his pro-Palestinian song Hind’s Hall as images from Gaza appeared on screens, and told the audience that people in Gaza and the occupied West Bank had not been forgotten. Sheeran later said the decision to remove Macklemore was made by the tour’s promoters after venue owners threatened to cancel concerts. He said he had attempted to find a solution but would not publicly set out his views on Israel and Palestine. Macklemore has repeatedly expressed support for Palestinians since Israel launched its genocide in Gaza in October 2023. He previously announced that proceeds from his singles Hind’s Hall and Hind’s Hall 2 would be donated to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, or UNRWA.
