A judge has ruled that singer D4vd must stand trial for the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez in April 2025. D4vd, whose real name is David Burke, has pleaded not guilty to murdering and sexually assaulting the teenager, whose remains were found in his Tesla last September. This follows a five-day preliminary hearing in Los Angeles, where prosecutors presented gruesome photographic evidence and questioned dozens of witnesses. Prosecutors claim Burke stabbed Rivas before dismembering her body after she threatened to destroy his career by going public with their relationship. The night before she was killed, Rivas texted Burke, “I swear to GOD I will kill u,” according to evidence shown in court. The next day, Burke sent an Uber to the teenager’s home to pick her up, and prosecutors allege that once Rivas arrived at his home, he stabbed her to death. The defence argued that there isn’t sufficient evidence that Burke committed the crime and claimed that he “repeatedly expressed love and care for Ms Hernandez after they broke up.” Burke, who is being charged with murder, continuous sexual abuse, and unlawful handling of human remains, is set to be arraigned on Aug. 31.
