Barbra Streisand Blasts Trump For Shutting Down The Kennedy Center

Barbra Streisand has criticized US President Donald Trump’s “unchecked ego” amid the ongoing dispute surrounding Washington, DC’s Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Trump has spent much of his second term attempting to reshape the Kennedy Center, a national memorial to President John F Kennedy. Recently, the Trump-appointed board voted to shut down the center after a federal judge blocked efforts to rename the building after Trump. The board claimed that the shutdown was necessary because the center faced bankruptcy and lacked the funds to pay its staff. Streisand, a Kennedy Center honoree, described the dispute as “galling and painful to witness” in a post on her website. After a judge ordered Trump’s name to be removed, Streisand claimed that a “humiliated Trump ordered a large tarp placed over the façade, where it remains today.” She further condemned Trump, writing of her “indignation at seeing this revered institution become the subject of such a bitter struggle over one man’s name and unchecked ego.”
