Obama Thinks Colbert Would Be Better President Than “Some Folks”

During a pre-taped interview for ‘The Late Show,’ Barack Obama suggested Stephen Colbert could do a better job as president than “some folks that we’ve seen.” “I’m looking for a new gig soon,” Colbert said. “A lot of people tell me I should run for president.” Obama jokingly replied, “You certainly have the look. You have the hair.” Colbert called the idea “stupid” and asked Obama, “How dumb do you think it is for people to say I should run for president?” “The bar has changed,” he jokingly responded. “I think you could perform significantly better than some folks that we’ve seen. I have great confidence in that.” While Obama didn’t mention President Donald Trump directly, he did warn against politicizing government institutions, including the criminal justice system and the military. “You can’t have a situation in which whoever is in charge of the government starts using that to go after their political enemies or reward their friends," Obama said to widespread audience applause. Colbert also asked Obama about his previous claim that aliens are real. The former president dismissed conspiracy theories, saying the government is “terrible at keeping secrets.”
