Kimmel jokingly responded, “If incompetently presiding over… the lowest rating in history is the reason I should be fired, we should both be out of a job.” As a headline referencing Trump’s low approval ratings appeared onscreen, Kimmel added, “Because you’re not doing too good either.” He argued that Trump’s criticism was a distraction, saying, “all of this is meant to distract us from the prices he didn’t lower on day one.” Kimmel continued, citing the “Trump-Epstein files that his attorney general refuses to release” and “the illegal war he started” in Iran. The feud initially escalated when Kimmel staged an “alternative” White House Correspondents’ Dinner on his show, joking that First Lady Melania Trump had a glow like an “expectant widow.”
