So earlier today The Verge reported that ChatGPT's creator OpenAI recently
0:06
launched a free tool for detecting AI-generated text. Is this tool any good
0:11
That's what we're going to explore today. But before we do, feel free to subscribe
0:17
to my YouTube channel where each week I'll be uploading new videos on a
0:20
variety of different topics including artificial intelligence. So the website is called the AI Text Classifier. You can find it at platform.openai.com
0:34
How the website works is you're able to paste text into this window. You submit your
0:40
text and this website will evaluate the writing and let you know whether it was
0:46
generated by artificial intelligence. On the website it shares that it will give
0:50
you four different categories. Either very unlikely, unlikely, unclear, possibly or likely AI-generated. The text classifier tool also shares some
1:02
limitations of it as well. My take is that it's not a hundred percent accurate
1:08
but at least this gives you some kind of idea whether text is real or AI-generated
1:13
So let's check this out. I am now in ChatGPT. I'm going to take this
1:19
text that I generated on the history of the interactive whiteboard. Let's go
1:25
ahead and let's paste the text and let's submit this to see what happens. Now the
1:31
classifier considers this text to be unclear if it is AI-generated. So again
1:36
it's not always a hundred percent accurate. That was something that came
1:40
directly from ChatGPT. So now I'm on CNN.com. I'm going to take the text from
1:46
this article and copy it. And now let me paste the text inside our AI text
1:52
classifier. And it correctly identifies this text as being very unlikely that it
2:00
was AI-generated. Now I'm going to go back to ChatGPT. I'm going to take this
2:06
document that I generated that just says to write an essay on the importance of
2:11
Let's go ahead and paste the text and now we will submit. And it again considers
2:17
this text to be unclear if that is AI-generated. So finally I am going to
2:22
try one more prompt that I generated from ChatGPT. I'm going to take this
2:27
persuasive letter. Let's go ahead and paste that. And now we will submit this
2:33
And now this classifies this letter as possibly AI-generated. So the takeaway
2:41
here is this tool may not be powerful enough to detect every instance of AI
2:46
But it might help give you an idea if text was written by a human. So it's not
2:52
perfect but if you're an educator and you just want to check to see if text is
2:55
authentic this might be an option to check out. So thank you so much for
3:00
watching this video. If you have any questions go ahead and leave them in the
3:04
comment area below. I'll leave the links in the video description as well as in
