Henry Riley speaks with Julie Aspinall, a self-described Witch, who casts spells to help people find love, confidence, and especially for Gen Z, jobs.
Aspinall says young people in the UK feel 'let down' and so turn to her for more untraditional help.
When asked whether she would help PM Andy Burnham along with a spell, she doesn't say no...

How did you first get into witchcraft
0:02
So, 40 odd years ago when I was a teenager, I used to, I was brought up a Catholic, I was brought up a Roman Catholic
0:11
And I was sort of always arguing the point. There was things I didn't understand about religion and I was always sort of in trouble for asking questions
0:20
And when I was a teenager, I used to be able to do things
0:24
I could make things happen. not really exciting things but if I liked a boy I could get them to ask me out and if I needed
0:32
some minutes a job would always come up so lots of little things and I thought it was like you know
0:39
God really liked me better than my friends because lots of good things always happened
0:43
and then I spoke to a friend a friend of a friend and they said actually we think that perhaps you
0:51
just manifest those things yourself and have you ever looked at witchcraft and so I did
0:57
Are there many people in that position do you think like you because I'm not in a position
1:03
where that's ever happened to me really? Yeah loads and I hold a festival every year in May
1:08
and it is for people who feel there might be a witch but they don't know which way to go or what
1:14
to do and that is and hundreds thousands of people come to it you know there'll be people listening to
1:21
this who say that you're completely mad and that you can't yeah i know people say all the time
1:26
they sound bonkers yeah what do you say to the people who say you're bonkers does it matter if
1:32
you want to think on bonkers you think i'm bonkers but you know what there's thousands and thousands
1:36
of thousands of people out there who don't think i'm bonkers who think i'm perfectly normal i've
1:41
been reading about some of the spells that you do and a lot of them are very positive aren't they
1:46
but I wonder if you ever do do you ever do sort of so-called hexes I mean if someone has wronged
1:52
you or called you bonkers or maybe been unkind to you can you hex them let me just say to you what I
1:57
say to people so um I say to you do you believe in hexing and you say no And I say to you OK so you have a little sister and somebody kidnaps and murders your little sister and
2:10
the police never catch them. And I say to you, I can hex that person so they have the
2:15
most awful life and horrible things happen to them all the time. What would you say to
2:21
me? Would you say do it or don't do it? If I was in that position where something as awful as that had happened, then I would probably accept your hex on the other person
2:31
And that's what everybody says. So even those people who don't believe in witchcraft, who don't believe in any spirituality at all, and I say that to them and they all say the same
2:43
Yes, I would go for it. But I suppose, I mean, that's a really extreme example, but I know that you help a lot of younger people
2:49
If someone says, look, my boyfriend or my girlfriend cheated on me and I'm really upset, can you put a hex on them or you wouldn't do it or have you done it
3:01
Well, no, not really, because, look, that's life, isn't it? What I say to them is, why don't I do a spell for you to give you some self-love and self-respect back
3:11
So it's less about harming the person. It's more about empowering. Yeah, empowering the person
3:17
You help a lot of younger people. I do. Gen Z do seem to be a very frustrated generation
3:22
because it's very difficult to get a job, as you will know, from the people you speak to
3:27
It's very difficult to find love. We're terminally online. What do you find are the most frequent things you're asked by people in that generation
3:34
The most thing I'm asked for is for people to find love
3:41
to get their ex back. It's a really popular one. Do you ever get it on the job front, the economy
3:48
you know people's salaries? Yeah all the time and I'll tell you a really funny story. Someone asked me asked us to do a spell for them for a job in Singapore I think it was
3:57
and he said there was 50 people applied for this job and he wanted to get to the he wanted to get through to the next bit yeah and so we did the spell and then he did and then he wanted to get through to the next bit Yeah And so we did the spell and then he did And then he wanted to get through to the final five
4:11
and we did the spell and he got through to the final five. And then he wanted to get the job
4:16
So, you know, we did the spell and he got the job
4:20
And then he messaged us two weeks later and he said, could you do a spell
4:25
Because I don't actually know how to do this job. You know, this isn't life
4:29
So it's not fault-proof. As you say, it's not Harry Potter. You have to..
4:34
So if I'm thinking, if I'm doing my university exams or something
4:39
or A-levels, I couldn't just go, right, get Julie on the blower
4:44
and get her to do a spell for me to make me pass, no
4:48
You've been doing this for ages. Have you noticed more that young people feel increasingly sort of despondent
4:52
and they're relying on your services? So they feel like they've been let down by the world
4:58
and I don't think that they don't have, it's like they don't have anything to follow, if you like
5:11
I don't know how old you are. 29. 29, okay. So when you were in your teens, there was things to do, wasn't there
5:23
Places to go. And now people, there isn't really places to go, is there, for younger people
5:28
So I offer card readings. So I always say to people, before you have a spell, have a card reading. Let's see where your life's heading. Let's see if we can sort this out without doing a spell
5:38
If someone thinks there's a spell put on them or that they've been hexed in some way, I mean, a good example is on this show, we had someone who, a Ghanaian witch doctor who said he'd cursed Harry Kane to not score at the World Cup
5:52
If Harry Kane emailed you and said, look, Julie, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. Could you help me? Would you would you be able to help him reverse a hex or a spell
6:00
Yeah well I could take the hex off him But let put it like this So if I said to Harry Kane I putting a spell on you so you not going to score at the world cup all right that my spell worked or has that got into his mind
6:17
and his mind's going to make sure that his body doesn't score you tell me well it doesn't matter
6:22
does it because at the end of the day it's not going to score either way so this is what i'm
6:27
saying so and it works the reverse so i have lots of people say to me that they've been cursed or
6:32
they've been hexed and really everyone's going through a bit of a not very good time at the
6:37
minute because the planets are all over the place so lots of people are having lots of bad things
6:41
and bad luck but people think that just think they've been cursed or they've been hexed and
6:47
I say to them okay I'll do a spell to remove the curse and the hex I can do a big cleansing on you
6:53
and then they phone me up three days later they say oh I feel so much lighter has their own mind
6:59
done that or has my spell worked but it doesn't matter does it either way because they feel better
7:04
and good things are happening if andy burnham or nigel farage said right i need a bit of help here
7:09
get julie on the phone or prince andrew said would you give me help i mean you wouldn't help any of
7:14
these people no celebs i have helped someone who is quite well known and i've also helped
7:21
well known in what acting or politics or i wouldn't say royal family but well known in
7:28
society, you would probably say. And I've also done a spell for one of the Indian government
7:35
diplomats. Are you able to share what they wanted or not? They fell in love with somebody and they
7:40
wanted them to fall in love with them and they wanted to be together. And I did the spell and
7:48
it worked and they were together. And then he phoned me six months later to reverse the spell
7:52
because she was a pain in the arse. You're telling me if the prime minister said, look
7:57
for the good of the country, I need a, I want a sort of spell to help you. You wouldn't do it
8:01
I mean, if it was for the good of the country, I would do it. And how much would you charge him? I mean
8:05
what's the, what's the cost of it? I would do it for free for the country. I've honestly learned so much
8:08
So I really appreciate you taking the time to talk to us
