oh oh man come on I remember that day
0:03
like it was yesterday Tracy G it was too
0:05
much fun man but like yesterday
0:08
yesterday come on man at that time this
0:11
young man walked up in the studio
0:13
unexpected he didn't even know he was
0:14
going to put him on the mic that day but
0:16
he was ready he was ready prepared
0:19
preparation and opportunity creat
0:21
success there it is and let me tell you
0:23
something at that time I remember in the
0:25
interview saying to him we were just
0:27
getting to know you when you get on that
0:29
gry stage don't forget us at that time
0:33
there was no Grammy
0:35
nominations there was no Grammy
0:37
consideration and if you fast forward
0:40
now this man has done so much work since
0:42
then he's written songs for the like of
0:45
Kiki Palmer yeah Victoria Monae oh yeah
0:49
Ella May Keith Sweat Ariana Grande
0:54
beonce there was an album called table
0:56
for
0:58
two
1:01
talk about it that war a Grammy ladies
1:04
and gentlemen I want to welcome him back
1:06
to the show this is truly a success
1:08
story this is why we do it we we met the
1:11
man on his come up he already had Grammy
1:14
potential right he already had success
1:17
in his DNA he was just waiting for the
1:19
rest of the world to tap into that
1:21
frequency and when he dropped that
1:23
painted they tapped into that frequ that
1:26
frequency when he dropped that candy
1:28
drip they tapped into that frequency
1:30
ladies and gentlemen I want to welcome
1:32
him back to the show but he's different
1:35
he's suited and booted he's shining
1:37
right now give it up for the one and
1:39
only lucky day is
1:41
back my God it's our lucky
1:46
day oh he the be couldn't be here today
1:49
baby he's different and I just played
1:51
that song that's you which is an
1:54
incredible song but before we get to
1:56
that how you been brother I've been I've
1:58
been amazing I just been working I've
2:00
been focusing and building myself man
2:02
like and that intro come on man give it
2:04
up for that intro come on man hey that's
2:06
the best intro ever it ain't written
2:07
Brother come on I felt that I felt that
2:10
it's coming from the heart yeah I
2:11
appreciate that yeah you know you know
2:13
I've been working though yeah I ain't
2:15
notice all them um accolades and all
2:17
that but you know cuz it's so much more
2:18
to do it's so much more to do so I'm I'm
2:21
literally focused on that and it was
2:22
yesterday when I was here but tomorrow
2:24
going to be better it's going to be
2:25
better man what do you mean you don't
2:26
the all the accolades so when you when
2:28
you work with people like Beyonce and
2:31
all these you see it as work just
2:33
another notch on the belt or well not
2:35
work as in like 9 to five wake up work I
2:38
see it as in like like purpose like like
2:40
that's what I'm supposed to be doing
2:41
uhhuh I I have to like give my my um
2:45
cont contribute my part into that
2:47
because I have such a big responsibility
2:50
because my gift speaks volume and I know
2:53
that I have to know that first so I I
2:55
just see it as like okay I have to do
2:57
this I have to do this I have to try my
2:59
best to do to reach the highest level of
3:01
this today today right you've done that
3:04
by the way that's an alert I think there
3:06
was an earthquake in
3:09
Jersey people on the East Coast act to
3:11
fool because of earthquake I'm from
3:13
Oakland California Lucky Day earthquake
3:16
ain't nothing that's just like nothing
3:18
rattles you yeah what earthquake y'all
3:20
tripping on earthquake anyway we can't
3:21
diminish it though we can't diminish it
3:22
though where you from New Orleans yeah
3:26
yeah earthquake is nothing to me like
3:27
when I went when I felt the earthquake I
3:28
was like oh that's not a hurricane oh I
3:32
he what I like how you did
3:34
thater this guy is good that's by the
3:37
way that's the name of his new single
3:38
Hurricane wow that guy that guy is wow
3:44
he's come a long way gave us a segue
3:46
everything you want to get to the single
3:49
dog is that what it is I mean we can you
3:51
have to extend the version of that you
3:52
I'm surprised nobody got it n man I'm a
3:56
I'm you know well first of all salute
3:57
the baby Sam the most important
4:00
influential invested committed CEO boss
4:05
in the business that's baby decades in
4:08
the game she's singing the lyrics to
4:10
your song Not only that she sings the
4:13
lyrics to every one of her artist songs
4:15
yeah this person there's nobody more
4:18
dedicated in music business to the music
4:21
than baby Sam yeah undeniable fact lucky
4:24
day I've known I've been there longer
4:27
than she's been there so I watched her
4:28
come up come on
4:30
baby we proud of you baby Sam we proud
4:32
of you baby Sam um let's get back to you
4:35
man lucky day is here um I want to go
4:38
back to we didn't get a chance to talk
4:41
about uh the painted project too and I
4:44
saw that you work with baby face yeah yo
4:48
that that was big yeah man we didn't get
4:50
a chance how was that how did that
4:52
happen and did he recognize your work
4:54
well he did and in the beginning I was
4:57
just like you know in the beginning when
4:59
it came out I was just like ah whatever
5:01
happens happens you know I'm not going
5:02
to pressure it too much like it's
5:04
whatever and then noticing how baby face
5:07
Lov my music so much and and then
5:08
brought it to earth when in Fire and
5:10
then wanted to meet de and we all just
5:12
started working and then he did a song
5:14
with L May he did a song with uh um ke
5:17
leade and Kanani I told him at um Bruno
5:20
Mars party I told him I said bro I I'm
5:23
impressed how you brought yourself back
5:25
over and over and over and over and I
5:26
appreciate you involving me in that so
5:29
just being able to work with somebody
5:31
great like that have you seen his his
5:33
hallway n with the with the plaques on
5:35
it he got signed plaques from Magic
5:38
Johnson I'm likeo got he snuck into M
5:42
Michael Jackson them show that's how he
5:43
began doing his thing and like earthwind
5:45
and fire his story is crazy but but
5:47
shout out to the goat yes baby face for
5:50
being so humble and quiet and like he
5:52
has nobody screaming his name so I'm
5:54
going scream it like I scream it with
5:55
you man n he he the one what did you
5:58
learn like that's one of the most
5:59
masterful songwriters in history of R&B
6:03
yeah right history so did you pick up
6:05
did you do pick up on something new
6:07
working with him that you implement now
6:10
I definitely did he made me feel like it
6:11
was okay to go all the way like before
6:14
before um we worked with the earthwind
6:15
in fire um the not compilation collab
6:20
yeah we um I never sung very hard like I
6:24
never tried to Belt cuz I felt like
6:25
belting was kind of no nobody belting
6:27
uhhuh like maybe Usher yeah and that's
6:30
it but he not really like Luther Bel but
6:33
baby face pushed me to like belt belt
6:35
belt belt and I have to say like he
6:37
birthed the feeling that I I put into
6:40
that shoe that shoe cuz you're singing
6:42
in that shoe on a whole another level
6:45
never sung that hard on a record wow and
6:48
that's baby face influence influence
6:50
yeah he pushed me yeah belting for those
6:53
who don't know that terminology means to
6:54
come from the diaphragm right and bu it
6:58
out you want to hear me Bel I yeah Bel
7:00
is real Bel is real you might hit the no
7:02
you might not but it's going to be loud
7:03
but when you seen when you listen to
7:05
your vocal performance on Das shoe and
7:08
let's be honest we had jinia Lucas come
7:10
up here recently and we were talking
7:11
about the Kendrick and the J jcole and
7:14
the the Drake battle and and Jake joinan
7:17
Lucas said I I can admit that Drake is
7:19
better than me as a MC at this but I'm
7:22
better as a Storyteller J Coogan do this
7:25
but I'm better at that but there's
7:27
nothing wrong with saying of somebody
7:28
you think right might could do something
7:30
a little better than you yeah definitely
7:32
who when you listen to that vocal
7:34
performance who can compete with that
7:36
vocal performance in the R&B world who
7:38
do you give credit to vocally that could
7:41
compete with you that can compete with
7:42
me vocally see no one I I don't I don't
7:45
I don't humbly nobody you just heard
7:48
what I said Jordan Lucas said it's okay
7:49
to say if somebody could do as well no I
7:53
humbly believe that there's no one no
7:56
male artist singing like me and R&B
8:00
they won't where's the bers there aren't
8:02
any like everybody's singing soft and
8:04
they timid and they scared I'm really
8:05
trying to just push the m and and make
8:07
people do stuff that they stopped doing
8:09
or forgot about doing or or need to
8:11
maybe evolve into doing I'm like I'm the
8:14
guy you put at the edge of the Earth to
8:15
see if it's safe you know what I'm
8:16
saying I'm not I'm not the I'm not the
8:18
lukewarm person that just live boiling
8:20
hot yeah I'll tell you if it's flat or
8:22
not I'mma come back what what what what
8:24
do you think people are scared of when
8:26
you say they don't want to Belt exposing
8:28
their limitations um I mean I think to
8:31
be able to do something like that you
8:32
have to perform it all the time
8:34
consistency it has to be part of you so
8:37
to to act like something is part of you
8:39
that's not part of you is impossible to
8:41
keep up and I'm probably I can do it so
8:44
and I can probably say I could do it
8:45
like by the grace of God like I'm not
8:46
I'm not trying to be cocky or nothing
8:47
like yeah yeah yeah I been singing since
8:50
I was three or four like it's literally
8:53
in my blood your uncles was singing the
8:55
moms were singing I remember you telling
8:56
us the whole family my grandma was
8:58
singing like and and they was like
9:00
singing from emotion it didn't matter
9:03
about the notes yeah I literally told my
9:05
mom I used to hate your voice like I
9:06
used cuz it was all Pinchy and all that
9:08
I didn't know what I didn't like but it
9:10
was like tone and stuff that I was
9:12
getting into that I didn't understand I
9:13
was learning as I was learning but my
9:16
mom have one of the best voices I ever
9:18
heard in my life and I learned from her
9:20
how to pick out certain things that I
9:21
like and dislike in my voice or can
9:23
improve so I learned just like from from
9:26
watching everybody else that have the
9:27
same gift as me how to perfect my gift
9:29
[ __ ] lucky day man this dude come a long
9:32
way Tracy he did not dress like this
9:36
promise you got to take it up and Dodge
9:37
bro it's a new era it's a new era I like
9:40
it real R&B
9:42
Rockstar the new era looks good on you
9:45
from a technical aspect lucky can you
9:47
describe for us and for our audience
9:50
what it looks like to prepare your vocal
9:54
cords for belting and to sustain the
9:57
power of your voice because it's not
9:59
just you wake up and at any single
10:02
random moment of the day you can just go
10:04
yeah know it's not going to happen right
10:05
now the only way to
10:08
work the only way to uh good like just
10:12
in case the only way to actually do it I
10:14
I I sing all day literally um I wake up
10:18
and I yell across the house and call it
10:19
a warm up and people people always
10:22
telling me especially music people like
10:24
yo you got to warm up you got to relax
10:26
on your voice you got to you know what
10:27
I'm saying you got to not smoke weed you
10:29
got to do this you got to do that
10:31
but I know my voice better than anybody
10:33
who knows my voice I can feel it when it
10:35
when it's when it's off or when it's not
10:36
off and I know that yelling helps if I
10:40
yell right um it depends where I put the
10:43
yell it's literally you have to be with
10:46
me to understand it's not a warmup like
10:48
d me f lot what is it like can you do
10:50
the warmup
10:52
here no warning
10:55
[ __ ] that's the warm up so that woke up
10:58
the an I didn't like the way that felt I
11:00
didn't like the way that felt that was
11:03
like that earthquake alert you asked you
11:06
asked that's the warm up dog that's the
11:08
warm up that is not cute n it's not
11:11
pretty it's not pretty ain't nothing
11:12
attractive about that you know what I'm
11:13
saying be careful you ask That's like
11:15
[ __ ] stepping on a tack
11:18
anybody the hell was that am I War okay
11:21
all right that's all you got to do y you
11:24
warm lucky day is here man I love it bro
11:28
yo that's [ __ ] up anybody who was
11:30
sleeping that was your alarm clock right
11:32
there W up wake up you remind me you had
11:34
that song um roll Some Mo was it roll
11:37
man that was my great song on so you
11:40
still an advocate then huh oh yeah I'm
11:44
R&B Snoop Dog man I wake up go to sleep
11:47
smoking like and then the joint with
11:49
Victoria let's talk about it from a
11:51
different angle let's talk about
11:52
cannabis right you know cuz it's a big
11:54
thing now with the legalization and it's
11:57
Patchwork legalization around the
11:58
country C C states can certain States
12:00
can't and it's almost like the the code
12:04
it's you know it's Pharm big farmers
12:06
fighting against cannabis but now people
12:08
invested in that too I don't I don't
12:11
think every I know people who use
12:13
cannabis and not all of them use it just
12:15
to get high right they don't want to use
12:18
synthetic Pharmaceuticals to treat some
12:21
of their issues so they use cannabis
12:23
that tends to work for them it doesn't
12:24
work for everybody exactly is it for you
12:27
that too is it to just be high and light
12:30
or it does it give you some type of um
12:33
medicinal medicinal purpose no um
12:37
definitely not I tried to I tried to no
12:40
it's literally it started off as a
12:41
social thing for me like everybody I was
12:44
I loved hanging around they smoked and
12:46
one day you know my first blunt came
12:49
from my uncle he left it in the as tra
12:51
he should never left Uncle did that but
12:53
people people around me was smoking and
12:55
it was kind of like you know what I like
12:57
y'all I want to do what y'all do you
12:58
know so maybe it was like a pressure
13:00
thing but some of those people they're
13:02
definitely not around and I just I just
13:04
kept that because maybe maybe it gives
13:06
me a feeling that I don't know you know
13:08
like and maybe and maybe well it's
13:11
another reason can I give you other
13:12
reason absolutely please man ain't going
13:14
to like this reason all right so damn my
13:16
voice was too smooth at one point and I
13:21
didn't like it I didn't want to sound
13:23
like Tyrese I didn't want to sound like
13:26
Mario I didn't want to sound like music
13:28
so child and everybody was always
13:30
comparing me and I used to have a
13:31
problem with being compared I don't care
13:33
no more but yeah it made me like want to
13:35
get more raspy and I love voices like
13:38
Alicia Keys and Mary Jay and like just
13:41
people that had that like in their voice
13:44
I love Chris ston you know what I'm
13:45
saying like that type of stuff and and I
13:48
always wanted that heavy feeling cuz I'm
13:50
I'm like a a smaller guy so it gives me
13:52
like power the weed yeah give my voice
13:56
power right that's what you tell
13:57
yourself it make me put
13:59
P made me push we we to make you think
14:02
that too I know weed Bring It Around
14:04
Bring It Around we to tell you
14:06
everything you want to hear right like
14:08
weed to tell you to put on that pearl
14:09
necklace it's
14:11
going don't be a hater Callaway I like
14:15
this man we have you righteous we have
14:18
you looking great listen man I love this
14:20
I'm going to open up these phone lines
14:22
right now lucky day is here he talked
14:24
about this song Hurricane but it's
14:26
spelled with h e r it is it is you had
14:29
some hurricanes in your life yeah know
14:31
like I I try to write songs in in triple
14:34
an tandas if I can okay double on tandas
14:37
that's my um my Norm that's at least
14:40
uhhuh triple anandra is like okay now
14:42
I'm really writing a general song that I
14:44
think everybody can like what is who
14:46
what what makes what is Hurricane what
14:48
does that mean what does that stand for
14:50
um the h e r yeah the H eer I wanted to
14:55
make it about a relationship but the
14:57
song itself is about being grounded in a
14:59
a chaotic relationship okay
15:01
understanding like it don't have to be
15:03
as complicated as it looks around you
15:06
when you internally have yourself like
15:08
your ENT toes in the dirt you know what
15:09
I'm saying yeah like and that and that's
15:11
what it's about like just me being
15:13
myself and being able to be free and
15:15
being showing people this new version of
15:17
myself and this other side of me not
15:19
even other side my whole self your whole
15:21
self it's my whole self when you learn
15:23
when you learn a lot of things think
15:25
like Bruce Lee right if he he learned
15:26
all the martial arts he's not going to
15:29
walk into um um
15:31
jiujitsu jodo whatever you call that and
15:35
dojo and and and start doing karate like
15:38
he's going to do Jiu-Jitsu but he knows
15:40
them all so if I go to church I'm I'm G
15:43
do Church runs I'm G do church cours I'm
15:44
going do church this but this song in
15:46
this album is All of Me All of You So
15:49
it's not just me trying to be in the R&B
15:50
box it's me showing them what I think
15:52
the R&B box is okay you're redefining
15:55
yes and pushing those boundaries exactly
15:57
I like that lucky day is here and then I
15:59
want to open up the phone lines if you
16:02
are in a chaotic
16:04
relationship right but it t it seemed
16:07
like it works for you from the outside
16:09
looking in it looks like a mess it's
16:12
chaotic man and even when you at home
16:14
y'all probably going at each other but
16:17
there's something solid in that that
16:19
works for you I want to hear about your
16:21
relationship share it with lucky day 888
16:24
742
16:25
3345 lucky day is here got a new project
16:29
coming out got a new album coming out
16:31
this year new single H hurricane coming
16:34
out
16:34
when the 19 the 19 it we talk about
16:40
chaotic relationships that's what
16:42
hurricane is about that seem chaotic but
16:44
actually got some solid foundation to it
16:47
um most people are thinking intimate um
16:50
when I was thinking chaotic
16:51
relationships maybe you could share some
16:53
stories lucky day I was thinking about
16:56
the amount of people when I first
16:58
started in the business bus uh was
17:00
surrounded by my partner King Tech baby
17:02
Sam knows King Tech we broke a lot of
17:04
artists together right um talk that and
17:08
but we had like seven guys around us I
17:12
can name them because they were our
17:14
first family and you just at that time
17:16
you think this is who's going to be here
17:18
at the Finish Line I know that feeling
17:20
right and as you working and you
17:23
accomplishing goals but there's some un
17:26
said things that are happening there's
17:27
some energy that you then you don't want
17:31
to confront it you don't want to create
17:32
tension some of us a little passive
17:35
aggressive but you know in your heart
17:37
that it's time to make a change it's
17:38
time for me to move on M and then the
17:41
guilt lands on you ah damn I got to let
17:44
torch go oh [ __ ] he was my first intern
17:48
now he my producer you know but damn it
17:51
y going through that yeah torch a slight
17:53
hater I got to let torch go cuz he's a
17:55
hater right this is his hypothetical
17:57
torch you're not really a hater
17:59
T like why had to beat me we know that
18:02
catching Strays over okay my bad torch
18:04
you didn't have the single I'm mad uh no
18:08
I definitely feel that bro but so did
18:09
you experience that like cuz you're not
18:12
around the same people no I'm not around
18:13
the same people I mean I think it's an
18:15
elevation like happening a lot of stuff
18:18
is is is changing in all aspects like me
18:22
I'm all about Evolution like I get I I
18:25
feel I like to think that I get direct
18:27
messages from like whatever p is that
18:30
yeah and I try to follow those those
18:32
messages and and I think it take a lot
18:34
of Integrity to to have accountability
18:38
for mistakes and stuff like that so I'm
18:40
big on like accountability and I think
18:42
the team around me should be big on
18:45
accountability so I mean yeah I I have
18:47
people that used to be around that's not
18:49
around friends that I love a lot like
18:51
even business people that I thought
18:53
would be like with me and it was very
18:55
very very hard to just to like find the
18:59
courage to to embody who I'm supposed to
19:02
be without them sadly and and you know I
19:07
think every every win reminds me that I
19:10
made a good decision being here right
19:12
now with you reminds me that I made a
19:13
good decision I ain't seen you since
19:15
2020 man that was before Co that was
19:17
before yeah you know like that was
19:19
Grammy time for me yeah but yeah I'm I'm
19:23
here to see I'm outside and and I got a
19:26
the squad that I need with me I got the
19:28
friends that I need with me and the
19:30
friends and some of the friends that I
19:31
kept instead of like getting rid of them
19:33
I found out where to put them there you
19:35
go all right without having to like get
19:37
rid of them you know what I'm saying
19:39
because just because just because I'm
19:40
evolving don't mean I have to force them
19:42
to evolve and it also don't mean I have
19:44
to get rid of them because they're not
19:45
involved it's my job to know where they
19:47
belong in my life right so I mean
19:49
accountability is my thing right now and
19:51
and we here we present so I love that
19:53
bro how how do you tell a friend back up
19:57
yeah how
19:59
can you use some words you chose I know
20:01
that's hard um I mean I choose words
20:03
like you know um y man what you like
20:06
about me yeah like why you hanging
20:08
around me you know what make you why
20:11
like what is it and just get people to
20:13
explain how they see it versus how I
20:16
think they see it you feel me I'm I
20:18
always think people want the best for me
20:20
I'm naive I'm gullible whatever that's
20:22
why single but okay you were single a
20:25
couple years ago yeah I was I was I
20:27
tried something you know saying and at
20:29
the time I was in a in a growth spurt so
20:32
it was tough to for somebody to catch me
20:34
on that at the right yeah in the right
20:36
Harmony but you know yeah now it was all
20:39
about accountability for me and that
20:40
made it easier for me to to to know if
20:44
I'm self-sabotaging self self-sabotaging
20:46
is also when you allow someone else to
20:50
hurt you yes [ __ ]
20:54
damn the person could be telling you
20:56
your self- sabotaging your whole
20:58
situation
20:59
why they're on your team and guess what
21:01
they right because you keeping them on
21:03
your team is you self
21:06
sabotaging that's the W Awakening I had
21:09
damn let that breathe for a second man
21:12
thank you lucky [ __ ] I've been paying
21:14
the wrong people for my
21:15
sessions just came to you dog hell I'm
21:19
doing lucky wow does the honesty that
21:22
you exhibit in your real life
21:26
communication does that help the
21:28
songwriting or is it more the honesty
21:31
that you share that we all hear in the
21:33
songwriting help to strengthen your
21:35
Communication in real life no I think
21:38
it's definitely the the honesty and the
21:41
the hope I guess the expectation I
21:43
expect from people human beings like I
21:47
like to still think that everybody is
21:49
amazing and I'm always going to think
21:51
that but amazing in their own right is
21:54
how I switched it now like everybody's
21:57
right so you know right cuz it's all
21:59
different perspectives so so I can't be
22:01
like mad for real I have to try to
22:03
understand and I like to think I'm the
22:05
most understanding person on the planet
22:07
wow that's what allows me to write uhhuh
22:09
I try to understand I want toath yeah
22:11
even if you hate me I want to know why
22:12
like I want to understand this makes
22:14
sense for why you also write so well for
22:16
women because I feel like you're able to
22:19
jump out of your own perspective and
22:23
Gain anothers Is it do you have to go
22:26
into a very different mode when you know
22:28
you're writing for a woman or is it as
22:30
easy as just switching the pronouns no
22:32
it's not even switching pronouns
22:34
sometimes I don't like to say pronouns
22:35
if I just make it about you then you
22:37
could be
22:40
anybody word
22:42
yeah
22:45
y just do man Dr that's
22:50
true
22:52
bro this [ __ ] is good dog it is it it's
22:57
cathartic I'm sorry I came back so deep
23:02
pause whoa whoa uh what you you in a
23:05
pause free on bro I'm too grown to be
23:09
pausing I don't care I don't this is the
23:11
opposite it's a lot going on right now
23:13
you got to keep it clear
23:16
so what what what kind what I'm I'm just
23:21
if the the the one you say you did a you
23:24
were in a relationship that didn't P it
23:28
it ran his course yeah ran his course
23:29
let use that word mhm the the person to
23:33
be with you what what what appeals to
23:36
you you have a lot that is appealing but
23:41
how what appeals to you in a woman
23:43
Dam what appeals to Cupid
23:47
um let me think not
23:52
Cupid yeah that's a wild way to put that
23:56
what what caught you like your last
23:58
relationship what what what was it about
23:59
her that the inial attraction oh man the
24:03
initial attraction on my last
24:04
relationship was that she wasn't so
24:06
perfect and she wasn't afraid to be not
24:09
perfect so I saw something that I could
24:12
be of help to and something that she
24:15
could be of help to for me cuz if you if
24:18
you able to recognize that you're not
24:19
perfect you can help me understand you
24:22
better and if I'm able to recognize that
24:25
you're not perfect I'm able to find a
24:27
place where I can help you you know it's
24:29
it's a tip for T it's a tip for T she
24:31
know what I'm talking about Li G
24:33
yeah and and so how do you break up what
24:36
do you mean how you break up like is it
24:38
text is it on the phone is it is it
24:41
through a song you know is it through a
24:43
song do do we S I never tried that I got
24:46
to see what you done did
24:48
Tracy a lot of girls think that song
24:50
about her like I I just that's just the
24:52
hardest it's time to go conversation
24:55
yeah n my breakup easy it's not it's not
24:57
hard it's kind of like you know
24:58
what are we doing you feel me and I'm
25:00
like I want you to tell me what we doing
25:03
like well that's not what I'm trying to
25:04
do you know maybe we should do that
25:06
later not today let's table that let's
25:10
put a bookmark in
25:12
this yeah it's so many ways you can do
25:15
it oh my gosh Ronnie light you got a
25:17
question you a 21 year old man I'm
25:20
learning game from I'm
25:23
learning we could do a school what's up
25:25
I can come every two times every come
25:27
through cuz I'm learning [ __ ] I thought
25:29
I knew something wow um we going to go
25:33
to these phone lines 888 742 3345 Nick
25:36
what up Nick is in La Nick what's
25:37
popping Nick what we doing
25:39
Nick hey ni Nick what's up Nick ain't
25:43
there all right I want to talk about
25:46
this song Boy by that's one of my
25:48
favorite songs of all time it really is
25:51
cuz Ari is one of my favorite artists
25:53
what who I love to play here all the
25:55
time I just think she's so honest and AR
25:59
and so her unapologetically I look at
26:02
her sometimes when she gets on her
26:05
Instagram and just have the camera
26:07
pointed at the ceiling and you only hear
26:09
her voice in the background I love that
26:11
so much y for some reason I'm just
26:13
looking at the ceiling listening to her
26:15
you know what I mean I talking about a
26:16
couch or something yeah what was that
26:18
environment like working with y'all
26:19
y'all work together so well no I love I
26:22
love Arie um her P her perspective is
26:26
her perspective and that's what I love
26:27
about her um we get in the studio and I
26:29
have to be very careful with her because
26:31
she's an artist as well and we all
26:33
sensitive yeah so she's a little more
26:35
sensitive if you say the wrong thing one
26:37
time you out that's it yeah no that's it
26:39
like like her heart is very fragile and
26:41
I feel like like that's what made me
26:44
like attracted to wanting to work with
26:46
her like so so bad like that
26:48
vulnerability that I don't know it does
26:50
something for me it's like okay that's a
26:52
lot of creative colors and pain in there
26:55
like I want to get in there so but that
26:56
session was she called
26:58
I pulled up with my homie Mike honey
27:00
shout out to Mike and then she start
27:04
talking about her man or whoever she was
27:06
dealing with at the time and it was just
27:08
like all right bet we using that it's
27:10
easy to write with her anything she say
27:12
is a song it is right yeah everything
27:14
she says so you get in the studio with I
27:16
mean just write the first thing she says
27:18
and long as you know how to sing you can
27:19
put a Melody to it she don't she don't
27:21
write either she just go in the booth
27:22
and just start singing hit I don't know
27:25
how she do that okay that was a pretty
27:27
horrible temp but Le you made I got to
27:30
scream again I ain't going to do
27:32
okay but but n she it's most one of the
27:35
most powerful voices in R&B right now
27:38
yes yeah I like everything about her and
27:40
her style what she presents to the uh
27:42
culture let's play that boy by and we
27:44
going to come back lucky day is here
27:45
Sway in the morning sh45 he be Tracy G
27:49
that's music
27:51
Kanani of music you should be listening
27:53
to young
27:54
man core progression yeah singing in key
27:59
yeah the warmth on the mix Jay Jak Jake
28:03
you a engineer can you speak to the
28:05
mixing that you're hearing right now the
28:06
prowess I mean that's beautiful music
28:08
right there everything's balanced clear
28:11
warmth everything you want from a record
28:13
it just hits your ears exactly how you
28:15
want it to oh
28:17
wow bouncing bars right there man um let
28:21
me ask you this lucky day uh first of
28:23
all it's great to have you up here we
28:25
were excited when you came across the
28:27
list
28:28
well you came here years ago and this is
28:32
before the the weight of accolades that
28:34
you receive now you said you mentioned
28:37
that music has cost you a lot a lot
28:41
music has cost me a lot how do you feel
28:44
about that
28:45
today
28:47
um I feel like the reward is is greater
28:53
than the
28:55
sacrifice yeah like just the just what I
28:59
see the trajectory of what things can be
29:01
like that keeps me keeps me going and
29:04
honestly like I pray every day like I
29:06
try to pray that my aders my adversities
29:10
equal and multiply my benefits because I
29:13
know what I've been through wait hold on
29:15
man another Earth another Earth bringing
29:17
it that's the power you coming with damn
29:19
bro you shaking up the world we bringing
29:21
it in we bring in that game boy talk I'm
29:25
going talk to God about it but so you
29:26
said the reward a lot greater than the
29:29
sacrifice yes right yes definitely the
29:32
rewards are way greater than the
29:33
sacrifice and it keeps me pushing and my
29:37
um like I was saying I pray that my um
29:40
my adversities and
29:42
failures they multiply my benefits
29:45
because I know I know what I've been
29:47
through and I've been you know I've been
29:49
homeless for probably longer than I've
29:50
been an artist still longer than I've
29:53
you homeless longer than you were an
29:55
artist yeah yeah so I know I still got
29:56
more to go homeless like shelter
29:59
homeless or park bench homeless s on the
30:01
beach sleeping on the beach
30:03
yeah San Pedro s Pedro Beach yeah with
30:07
blankets you no I mean I I use blankets
30:11
yeah if I had blankets but I had a um I
30:12
had a cousin who had a um a crib on the
30:16
army base in San Pedro Fort something
30:19
and he would let me stay over there
30:20
sometime so sometime he would give me
30:22
his stuff and I was just like got
30:24
blankets got long as I drunk a bottle of
30:26
fifth of Hennessy with him I could chill
30:28
in his crib or like he let me fall
30:30
asleep on his couch yeah but you had to
30:32
drink the H I had to drink the h g
30:34
that's a nasty exchange right there for
30:36
some sleep yeah yeah hey we made it we
30:40
made it that's amazing bro when you were
30:43
you writing at that time too I making my
30:45
first album when I was over there that
30:46
was 2017
30:48
2016 yeah what was the one project what
30:51
what was it called that was the um
30:52
painted the painted so you made painted
30:55
homeless yeah yeah baby face is on
30:58
painted no baby face is after is after
31:01
painted yeah um painting I didn't know I
31:03
didn't think it was going to be anything
31:05
okay yeah I was ready to go home like I
31:07
tried to go all the way to the point of
31:09
like okay God now it's clear that this
31:12
ain't my purpose I tried to go all the
31:14
way to the point of that yeah wow and I
31:17
got to the end I got right to the end
31:20
and what brought you back my fans they
31:24
they like the music and I don't know
31:27
they just just brought me back to life
31:30
so everything I do is for them it's
31:31
really it's really not for no accolades
31:34
like I don't I never tried to make a
31:36
radio song Until I made over um I did
31:38
that on purpose and every every song
31:41
before that was just for myself MH and
31:44
once I got once I saw what what that
31:46
song made the people do or like feel and
31:49
it made people smile people be like
31:51
happy to hear and singing along and
31:53
that's what inspired me to create this
31:54
new album like let me make an album
31:57
showing them Who I Really Am that makes
31:59
them feel good like make them feel like
32:01
they could be free make them feel like
32:02
they could be fierce it's okay if you
32:04
losing somebody to gain and multiply it
32:07
like like it's okay it's
32:10
okay I I have to say man uh what what no
32:14
pretentiousness this is one of the my
32:16
favorite conversations having on this
32:18
platform bro wow absolutely yeah man
32:20
I've had a lot of them I know so I'm
32:23
really the best one yeah man I'm really
32:25
enjoying this conversation and your
32:27
growth your honesty and I at the end of
32:29
the day that's what I appeals to me
32:32
right that's when you activate my
32:34
honesty brother I'm proud of you keep
32:36
going you you ain't even done with the
32:38
first quarter n not at all n RB was
32:42
never there never shout out to Usher too
32:45
man shout out to usher and shout out to
32:47
Beyonce and Beyonce right Chris Brown
32:50
and Chris Brown my brother Chris Brown I
32:52
love what they're doing I love
32:54
everything that we moving this train is
32:56
moving man the R&B train is not it's
32:57
it's not that it's dead it's that they
32:58
couldn't recognize it it's bigger than
33:00
ever right now bigger than ever and Usha
33:03
put that [ __ ] on his shoulders too and
33:05
on a shirt and shout out to Victoria
33:06
Monae come on M yo lucky day give it up
33:10

33:12

33:15

33:18

33:20

33:23
it up brother we going to end the show
33:25

33:28
for coming through and let's keep doing
33:30
it let's keep building man of course I
33:31
got to see you live now yeah that's the
33:34
missing piece that's what I want yeah I
33:35
got to see you live man I got to see the
33:37
crowd I got to see the reaction that's
33:39
the the button flick on that's when you
33:41
see the that's when it's happening I
33:43
don't know who had who comes out really
33:45
I'll be there and if you you guys want
33:47
