Phoenix, United States - August 19, 2026 08/19/2026 12:57 am GMT-0700 TOLLESON, Ariz. – Fire crews from the cities of Tolleson, Phoenix, Glendale, Avondale, and Goodyear responded to reports of a fire at the PepsiCo facility near the 400 block of South 104th Avenue. According to fire officials at the scene, employees directed firefighters to a burning lithium-ion forklift battery inside the facility. The battery was in a state of "thermal runaway" and was off-gassing dangerous fumes inside the facility. Crews established a water supply and applied a large and continuous stream of water onto the burning cell to stop the ongoing chemical reaction. Once the fire was controlled, HazMat teams were called in to mitigate any further hazards. All employees were able to safely evacuate the facility and no injuries have been reported.
