US, Los Angeles: Santa Clarita LASD Arson K9 Combing Auto Shop in Old Town Newhall Fire Investigation.

Los Angeles, United States - September 21, 2026 09/21/2026 03:25 pm GMT-0700 SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department arson investigators returned to Gary’s Auto Collision Center in Old Town Newhall today, a day after the heavily damaged auto body shop caught fire for the second time in less than a month. An Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department arson K9 unit was seen combing through the burned-out property in the 24200 block of Railroad Avenue Monday as investigators continued working to determine what sparked Sunday afternoon’s fire. Heavy smoke and flames shot through the roof of the auto shop shortly before 4:30 p.m. Sunday, prompting a large response from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters contained the flames inside the already heavily damaged property and declared the fire knocked down shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday’s blaze came just shy of a month after an August 24 fire that originated at Gary’s Auto Collision Center tore through an entire block of century-old buildings along Railroad Avenue, destroying several businesses and historic structures in the heart of Old Town Newhall. Sheriff’s arson investigators are continuing to investigate both fires. Sunday’s fire also came less than two hours after another fire was reported at 2:55 p.m. at a Canyon Country auto shop owned by the same person, which also burned in July 2025. The circumstances surrounding the fires remain under investigation, and authorities have not announced a cause.
