Along the Purple Coast, visitors took to the clear waters and wandered through the narrow streets of the seaside town, where houses in the Chianalea district sit close to the water beneath the hilltop Ruffo Castle. Known for its coastline, narrow alleys and seafront setting, Scilla has become a popular tourist destination in Calabria. The town’s name recalls Scylla, the mythical monster in Homer’s Odyssey. Scilla has also benefited from development initiatives in Reggio Calabria, which contributed to the arrival of hundreds of tourists over the past year.
