Italy’s Health Ministry issued a three-day warning bulletin for cities expected to face extreme heat, saying the hot air mass from Africa is intensifying across the country. The ministry, which had issued red alerts for eight cities on Sunday, raised the number of cities under the highest-risk category from Monday through Wednesday. Rome, Bologna, Bolzano, Brescia, Florence, Frosinone, Milan, Perugia, Pescara, Rieti, Turin and Verona were placed under red alert on Monday. The ministry said Ancona, Venice and Viterbo would be added to the list on Tuesday, bringing the number to 15, while Latina would be included on Wednesday, raising the total to 16. Authorities repeated their call for people to avoid going outdoors between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and published guidance on protection from the sun and extreme temperatures.
