Rome remained under the highest heat alert issued by Italy's Health Ministry as temperatures stayed exceptionally high. Civil Protection misting systems helped cool visitors waiting outside the Colosseum, while many tourists sought relief using umbrellas, hats, sunglasses, handheld fans and water from the city's public fountains. According to the latest weather forecasts, the heatwave is expected to begin easing across Italy from Friday.
