TURKISH MINISTER POSING FOR PHOTO IN FRONT OF COLOSSEUM BUILDINGROME, ITALY - AUGUST 31: A major exhibition on the shared historical and mythological heritage of Troy and Rome has drawn more than 2 million visitors at the Colosseum in Italy, Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said. Ersoy said on social media that the exhibition, titled “Troia and Rome: Myths, Legends and Stories of the Ancient Mediterranean,” had reached 2,066,178 visitors. The exhibition was opened at the Colosseum as part of cultural cooperation between Türkiye and Italy. Ersoy said 221 artifacts from museums affiliated with Türkiye’s Culture and Tourism Ministry are featured in the exhibition, while the total number of works on display exceeds 300 with pieces from Italian and Vatican museums. He said the exhibition introduces a shared historical memory extending from the Trojan War and Homer’s Iliad to Aeneas’ journey to Italy and the Anatolian origins of Rome’s founders. The minister said the exhibition, which will remain open until Oct. 18, contributes to promoting Türkiye’s cultural values internationally and strengthening ties between Türkiye and Italy through cultural diplomacy. According to the ministry, the exhibition was prepared under cultural cooperation projects between the Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry and the Italian Culture Ministry. It was inaugurated on June 11 by Ersoy and Italy’s culture minister before opening to visitors on June 12. Curated by the Colosseum Archaeological Park and Türkiye’s General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums, the exhibition focuses on the Trojan War, the political landscape of Anatolia during the period, myths in Homer’s Iliad and Aeneas’ journey from Troy to Italy after the war. The exhibition stands out as a cultural diplomacy initiative aimed at presenting Türkiye’s archaeological and historical heritage on an international scale and strengthening Türkiye-Italy relations.
