PEOPLE SITTING UNDER TREENAPLES, ITALY - JUNE 19, 2026: People flocked to beaches and waterfront areas in Naples on Friday, June 19, seeking relief from high temperatures brought by an African anticyclone affecting much of Italy. Residents and tourists were seen swimming, sunbathing and taking shelter from the sun along the coast as temperatures remained above seasonal averages. Italy's Health Ministry has issued heat alerts for several cities in recent weeks as the African anticyclone pushed temperatures higher across the country. Authorities have warned residents to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day and urged particular caution for children, the elderly and people with pre-existing health conditions. Rome, Florence, Turin and Bologna have previously been placed under the highest-level red alert as the heatwave spread across Italy.
