China: Chinese tourists encountered rare deep sea oarfish alive on shoreline.
May 8, 2026
Hainan, China - April 01, 2026 This was the rare moment that Chinese residents and tourists discovered a giant live oarfish stranded on a beach and worked together to drag it back into the sea as it appeared close to death. On April 2, 2026, in Lingshui, Hainan, the video captured a massive oarfish lying on the shoreline after it had apparently become stranded in shallow waters. The rare deep sea creature, which witnesses estimated to be around three metres long, attracted a crowd of shocked beachgoers who gathered around to observe the unusual sight. The footage showed several people grabbing the giant fish by its body and tail before carefully pulling it back toward the ocean waves. Tourists at the scene said the oarfish already appeared to be in critical condition and was barely moving while being rescued. Researchers previously found that deep sea fish such as oarfish had no proven connection with earthquakes, despite long standing rumours and online speculation linking such sightings to seismic activity. The video ended with the giant oarfish being pushed back into deeper water as waves slowly carried it away from the shore.
