Storyline Drones give rise to innovative solutions in China Drones are being used in a variety of ways in China. In Yichang City, of central China's Hubei Province, they help put out wildfires. At a test site recently, an autonomous firefighting drone dropped a fire-retardant pod from a height of nearly 50 meters. Upon impact, it exploded and extinguished the flames. Lu Yuheng, technician, autonomous firefighting drone system: "This a firefighting drone with speed of 15 meters per second. Within a three-kilometer coverage, drones can arrive at anywhere within 5 minutes." But drones aren't just for emergency scenarios. As a tourism novelty, a drone is employed as the ultimate selfie-taker at a scenic spot in the city. Visitors scan a QR code to see the uplifting results. Tourist: "It's amazing. The drone flies up after scanning the QR code, and then the drone takes wide view photos for us. It takes roughly 3 U.S. dollars once." Data shows that the market scale of China's low altitude economy is expected to reach about 510 billion U.S. dollars by the year 2035. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
