Storyline Chick it out: intelligent inspection robots help manage chicken farms in China There's a new kind of patrol system at this chicken farm in southwest China's Guizhou Province. An inspection robot equipped with cameras and lights rolls down the henhouse isles carrying out essential tasks like scanning the cages and monitoring the hens' health. The robots conduct inspections twice a day, each round taking one to two hours, saving an enormous amount of time compared to manual inspections. Liu Taide, technician, chicken farm: "One robot can easily handle the inspection work for two chicken houses, saving 90 percent of the time compared to manual labor." Besides the rolling robots, chicken farms in China are also using automated breeding and egg processing systems. Data shows that in at least one county in the province, poultry eggs output topped 7,400 tons in Q1 this year, valued at about 16.5 million U.S. dollars. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
