Aerial shots of city view Storyline The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) is injecting new momentum into China's high-quality economic growth, driving technological breakthroughs, industrial upgrading and productivity gains. In an AI Application Demonstration Zone in Shenzhen City of south China, more than 100 AI applications are already in operation. Drones patrol the skies for traffic management, while in smart stores, humanoid robots sort orders and robotic dogs make deliveries. Through intelligent coordination, these AI systems are making urban governance smarter and more efficient. This street exemplifies China's broader push to move AI from laboratories into real-world applications. Official data shows that China's core AI industry was valued at more than 1.2 trillion yuan (about 173.9 billion U.S. dollars) in 2025. China has developed eight of the world's top 10 open-source AI models, produces eight out of every 10 humanoid robots globally, and holds 60 percent of the world's AI patents. This rapid progress stems from strong top-level planning and policy support. "Artificial intelligence" has been included in three consecutive five-year plans. Major national projects and a world-class power supply system have provided a solid foundation for AI development. Leveraging its complete industrial chain and vast market, China is building a comprehensive AI ecosystem spanning technological and industrial innovation. "From the national level, we have received extensive support regarding resources, industry development, and talent, enabling us to focus wholeheartedly on innovation. Our model iteration cycle has improved from six months in the past to just two or three months now, and a new generation of models is currently under development," said Yang Zhilin, founder and CEO of Beijing-based startup Moonshot AI. AI is now deeply integrated across industries. In manufacturing, it has been embedded in every core stage of research, development and production, covering more than 70 percent of business scenarios in leading smart factories. In the agriculture sector, AI-empowered smart platforms precisely monitor crop growth in real time and generate optimized fertilization plans tailored to different growth stages. China has established a batch of national-level AI application pilot bases in more than 10 sec
