Storyline Beijing rolls out smart traffic system to ease congestion, cut delays Driving in China's capital city is getting smarter thanks to AI powered stop lights that know when to adjust for an increase in traffic. At 19 intersections in the city's Haidian District, traffic lights aren't on a schedule, they think for themselves-monitoring the flow of traffic and adjusting red or green signals as needed to keep things moving. Zhou Shiguang, driver: "It used to take me to wait for two or three green lights to pass through the Weigongcun intersection during the evening rush hour after work. But now, after the traffic light system is adjusted, I can pass it in one go, and I can also catch the green light at the next intersection. The traffic has become much smoother." The AI monitoring is part of a larger Dual Intelligence program, first launched in December of 2020. That system includes multi-camera splicing technology that edits together various camera angles of the same vehicle to produce a more complete picture of any driving infraction.
