Storyline Chinese new energy buses steer into global market As the global demand for green transport grows, China-made new energy buses are heading for a wider market. In central China's Zhengzhou City, one bus manufacturer is testing its products on a massive racetrack before they're shipped to the Netherlands. A quality control supervisor explains the plan for the production and export of so-called U12 or 12-meter-long busses. Jiang Tao, quality control supervisor, bus enterprise: "Roll out more U12 series. Run them as normal and then hit the high-speed circuit." The supervisor says a large portion of the busses that are tested run on electricity. Jiang Tao, quality control supervisor, bus enterprise: "We test about 130 units a day, sometimes up to 150 units at peak times. Nearly half of them are new energy vehicles. For Europe, more than 95 percent of our orders are new energy." To meet diverse overseas demand, the bus manufacturer has adopted a "country-specific" approach. In the extreme cold of Europe's Nordic region, for example, their new energy buses can start at minus 35 degrees Celsius. Busses exported to the hot dry and dusty climates of the Middle East, however, use an independent liquid cooling system to protect power batteries. Wang Yong, product manager, high-end city buses, bus enterprise: "If a customer buys a vehicle for 15 years of operation, we offer a 15-year battery warranty. Looking ahead, the bus export sector features high-end products, new energy and intelligent connectivity." To better serve foreign clients, some Chinese bus producers are setting up service centers, parts hubs, and training facilities overseas, exporting services together with products.
