Storyline China ranks second globally in concentrated solar power capacity China now ranks second in the world for concentrated solar power capacity, according to data released at the Qinghai Clean Energy Development Forum opening today in Xining. As of the end of June, the country had 24 operational projects totaling 2.1 million kilowatts of installed capacity. Unlike conventional solar panels, concentrated solar power uses mirrors to focus sunlight into heat, which is then converted into electricity. Yang Kun, Executive President, China Electricity Council: "China has become a main driver of new installed capacity in global concentrated solar power. The country has mastered mainstream technologies and built a globally leading industrial chain for the sector.
