Storyline China-made electric tricycles gain overseas traction Chinese-made electric tricycles are riding a powerful wave of overseas demand, fueled by their affordability, durability, and design flexibility. In Xuzhou City, east China's Jiangsu Province, alone, exports of electric three-wheelers topped 44 million U.S. dollars in the first half, a surge of about 90 percent from the same period last year. Major export markets include Europe and Southeast Asia, where the vehicles' compact size makes them ideal for navigating narrow farm and orchard lanes. This model, for instance, is being tailored for Indonesia with minor modifications. Wang Daohong, electric tricycle exporter: "We currently plan to purchase more than 20,000 of these vehicles a year." Beyond tricycles, Xuzhou-built electric sweepers and other specialized vehicles are also gaining strong global traction, thanks to their multifunctional capabilities and advanced smart features. He Shan, sales manager, Jiangsu Shanming Shuixiu Environmental Protection Technology: "It can sweep, rinse, and use a mist cannon to suppress dust. One sweeper can replace more than a dozen workers." Zheng Wei, head, strategic operations department, Jiangsu Xuzhou Zongshen Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd.: "Originally, it was simply a display screen. Now, we added some intelligent systems in it, and [its configuration] is similar to vehicle-machine interconnection." Customs data shows that electric tricycles manufactured in Xuzhou are exported to more than 130 countries and regions, spanning Africa, Southeast Asia, South America, and Central Asia, with shipments to Europe and North America gathering pace.
