Storyline Computing power evolves into assets in China's financial, capital markets As China builds out its computing power data centers, it's also developing computer power banks to make obtaining compute power more accessible for companies. The banks allow companies to deposit excess power when they have a surplus, or to withdraw it when they need it. The compute banks have also driven demand for various financial products, like computing infrastructure investment trusts. For example, Range Technology and GDS Holdings, a domestic data center operator, has launched a set of publicly traded real estate investment trusts, or REITs, while VNET has launched REITs for inter-institutional trading. Zhu Min, head, Digital Intelligence Consulting Institute, Huaxin Consulting, Design, and Research Institute: "With such a financial channel, the capital turnover rate of computing power companies will be greatly improved. Through financing, companies can free up capital to build another computing center, to some extent accelerating the pace of construction." Earlier this year, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released a campaign to boost compute bank infrastructure that includes establishing broadly accessible services that are low cost by the year 2028.
