Storyline China launches first green power project integrating computing power, electricity supply A new photovoltaic energy station that will help power a computer data park in northwest China recently came online. The solar power station, with a total installed capacity of 500,000-kilowatts, will serve the China Datang Corporation Limited cloud data center in Zhongwei City. The station is part of a larger effort that combines solar, wind, and electricity to power the country's various large-scale computing clusters. Northwest China's vast open spaces and abundant sun and wind resources make it unbeatable for the development of clean energy sources that directly power computer data centers. Around 40 kilometers south of the solar park, a wind power project with an installed capacity of 1.5 million kilowatts is expected to be operational by the end of the year. Representatives from the computing park say so far six of China's top 10 computing enterprises have joined. One enterprise said after a trial operation at the park, they realized they could save more than 14 million U.S. dollars annually in electricity costs. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
