Storyline China accelerates AI application in energy sector China is vigorously integrating AI within its energy sector, employing dozens of industry-specific LLMs at power grids, and for both oil and gas operations and renewables. Kunlun is the large language model released by China National Petroleum Corporation, the country's largest oil and gas firm. Kunlun has been deployed across the CNPC's entire industrial chain, covering 152 application scenarios in oil and gas exploration and extraction, refining, technical services, and financing. Qiao Hui, Assistant general manager, China National Petroleum Corporation: "The Kunlun large model is being applied to every key link of the industrial chain. We have set 27 AI standards in areas such as dataset models, embodied intelligence, and AI governance, transforming the model's practical experience into industry consensus." The China Energy Investment Group, meanwhile, has launched Qingyuan, an LLM for power generation, which has been applied in four major areas: safety and environmental protection, power trading, production coordination, and equipment maintenance. Officials from the country's National Energy Administration say efforts to integrate AI into various processes has created a self-fulfilling cycle of efficiency. Wang Hongzhi, Head, National Energy Administration: "We are forming a virtuous cycle in which the energy industry creates scenarios, AI solves problems and raises requirements, and then the energy industry optimizes its supply." Last month, the NEA announced 51 AI+ high-value scenarios for the energy sector. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
