The funeral took place in the town of Ghassoul in El Bayadh province. Algerian authorities recovered the child's body on Saturday after a four-day effort to rescue him from the well. The Civil Protection service announced in a statement that Ayoub’s body had been recovered. “The Civil Protection service, together with local authorities, mobilized all human and material resources for this operation,” it said. Ayoub fell into a dry well Wednesday in the village of Rekna, part of Ghassoul municipality in El Bayadh province, prompting a rescue operation that continued for four days. Excavation of a parallel shaft was completed around midnight from Friday into Saturday, after which a Civil Protection officer descended to begin digging a horizontal tunnel toward the boy. The operation, however, encountered further complications.
