US Vice President JD Vance is widely seen as a leading contender for the Republican nomination in the 2028 US presidential race, positioning him to potentially succeed President Donald Trump when his term ends. However, Vance has not always had positive things to say about Trump, having been openly critical of him in the years preceding his vice presidency. In a 2016 interview with Charlie Rose while promoting his memoir ‘Hillbilly Elegy’, Vance described himself as a “Never Trump guy” and added that he “never liked him.” During that same year, Vance publicly criticized Trump on X (formerly known as Twitter), writing, “My god what an idiot,” in reference to the future president.
