How to change your YouTube channel name

So I know it's really stressful choosing a channel name and getting started on YouTube

but the good news is whatever channel name you have, you can change it at any point that

you like. And so in this video, I'll walk you through step-by-step changing your YouTube channel name

So let's get started. So here is a channel that I started a couple of years ago

You can see I haven't actually published a video here for over three years

If you want to get into changing the channel name, you can click on Customize Channel right

here, or the other option, if you're within YouTube Studio, you can click on Customization

right here. Now that we have a couple of things open, let's just do this in one location

And then what we want to do here is click on Basic Info. So you can see right here is the description

So here is your channel name. All you need to do is click right here. So maybe I want to go by JJ Thelen or Jeffrey, or maybe I want to make this the same as what

we have on Instagram and other social media, where just the MR wasn't available

So maybe we want it to just be Mr. Thelen like this

So if this is what I wanted, we have that. I can just click on Publish, and Channel Name Updated, done

Super, super easy. One other thing you may want to change is your custom URL. So if your channel has more than 100 subscribers, it's been around for over 30 days, you have

a profile picture and a banner, there may be some other requirements I'll put down below

in the description. But if you have all those, you can get a custom URL. And if you're completely changing your channel name, you probably want to update that as well

So let's do that. So on the same page, you don't need to go anywhere. Just scroll down a little bit further and you see the custom URL

So here you can click on Delete. And what we'll see here is YouTube Custom URL

Let's click on that. Who can see your URL? Anyone can see this info when they communicate with you or view content you create in Google

Services. So if we click on Remove. Are you sure you want to remove your custom URL

If you proceed, the URL, Mr. Thalen, will no longer direct to your YouTube channel

If you would still like a custom URL, you'll need to go to YouTube to claim a new one

to keep it. So this is the process that you would go through for changing your custom URL after you change

your channel name. You don't want to change the custom URL first because it's going to pull your name to figure

out what the custom URL could be. So this wouldn't exist if I tried to do the custom URL before changing the name
