Are you tired of the background you're using for your videos
0:01
Well, with what we're talking about today, with these two things, you can have an infinite number of colors and change up your background whenever you like
0:08
So if you want to be able to switch up the color of your background like I just did, the two things you need are one, an RGB light like this
0:14
So this comes with an app, so you can have essentially an infinite number of colors that
0:19
you can adjust this light to. And the second thing is a gray wall
0:23
So we're going to get into more detail in both of those. So let's talk a little bit more about the light
0:27
So this is the Aputure MC light. So you can see it's very easy to switch this up to any color
0:35
I can adjust the intensity, turn it all the way down right now. This is a fairly small light, so what you probably noticed is so when I have this, even
0:43
if it's at 100%, it's not going to make the entire wall kind of a consistent kind of fuchsia
0:50
color at this point. But the thing is, if I potentially had two of these lights, so if I had one just off
0:54
camera here, another one off camera here pointed at the wall, I could probably have
1:00
a more consistent color as far as a background. This is just a really small light
1:05
Aputure also has a, what's it called, a practical light. So it's a light bulb
1:09
So if you want to have an RGB light that you use with one of your lamps and want to be
1:14
able to change up the colors, another option or two options are newer or GVM make bigger
1:20
LED RGB light. So if that's something you're looking for, I'll put information to all the different
1:24
lights down below in the description if you want to check them out. So now let's talk about this gray wall
1:28
Yes, this is a painted gray wall. It's not that difficult to paint the wall if you've never done it before
1:33
I'll find some tutorials and put them down below in the description. You can follow along, paint a wall in your home or office
1:40
Don't worry, you're not going to make a huge mess. Just follow along with the tutorials and you'll be just fine
1:45
A couple of other points as far as choosing the color. So you could use white, but the thing is with a white wall, the white essentially bleeds
1:53
through a little bit so you won't have as deep or intense of colors. So here's a YouTube short that Laura, my business partner, created
2:00
The wall behind her is white. You can probably notice the color isn't quite as intense as with what I just showed you
2:05
with the gray wall behind me. The other thing that's important is using a neutral gray color
2:10
So if you've ever seen one of these before, this is a gray card, 18% gray
2:14
This is something that's neutral. It has the same quantity of red, blue, and green, the three colors that essentially go
2:20
into anything. Whatever color you choose does not have to be as dark as this one
2:25
So you can see the wall behind me, you can see is quite a few shades lighter, but it
2:32
is a neutral gray color. So to learn how to choose a neutral color like that, it takes a little bit of work
2:38
but a lot of the paint companies show you the RGB number for whatever color of paint
2:43
it is. So why don't we hop on the computer and I'll show you a little bit more about that
2:47
Okay, so here is middle gray. This is what I was talking about earlier. So if you scroll down here, 18% is what I believe the gray cards are
2:54
So what this is essentially the same color. And then you see here there's RGB
2:59
So 000 is black and 255, 255, 255 is pure white. And then so all the other colors in the rainbow, any other paint color, whatever it is, are
3:09
some mixture of those colors. And so you can see this is 118 for all three
3:15
The hex code is a different style of numbers, but it's essentially the same thing
3:19
There's three numbers for these six digits. So you can see 76 three different times
3:24
And so as you see, as you kind of, if you go up further, this darker color is 59 across
3:29
the board. 149 is a little bit lighter. I think the color behind us is about that
3:36
Not all paint companies clearly show on their website the different RGB numbers for the
3:39
paint colors. But a lot of times you can find it by Googling it
3:43
For example, the paint that I used to paint the wall where I recorded videos in Michigan
3:47
was this one from Benjamin Moore called Wall Street. So seeing this color, not 100% sure, hey, is this neutral or not
3:55
So by Googling Benjamin Moore paint RGB colors, I was able to find this website
4:01
And so for some reason it doesn't show the entire name for Wall Street, but you can see
4:04
that it's the same by CSP 20. Go back here and it says CSP 20
4:10
So this color, for example, is 147, 148, 147, which is really close
4:15
You can see a lot of these here. So Arctic, for example, or wool are fairly close as far as the red, blue, and green being
4:25
more or less the same number. But if we go down a little bit further, you're going to see that not all of them are that way
4:31
So for example, this one old, so it's 197, 187, 172. So between the red and green, there's over 20 different
4:40
So this is going to be, you know, tinted to the red
4:44
And so you can see a lot of different colors here. If you kind of scrolled on the same thing for C, sometimes it's hard to kind of eyeball
4:50
So for this lighter color, for example. So if you can see the RGB colors, it's much, much more useful
4:56
So for example, here's another one. These are bare paints. And I noticed this is our most popular colors
5:01
I clicked on this one earlier and you see 160, 160, 159
5:06
Good enough. Same thing if you're on Sherwin-Williams. You kind of have to play around a little bit
5:11
Sometimes you can't see an amazing list. But you see here 150, 154, 150
5:17
You know, pretty good. So I was a little bit worried finding the right gray paint color for our Mexico City
5:22
office where I am right now. But this color I think looks pretty good
5:26
So to find this color, we went to the local paint store called Comex
5:30
And I like the name of this called Microfono, which is microphone in Spanish
5:34
And on the website, it doesn't necessarily show the detail as far as the RGB colors
5:40
But luckily when we showed up at the paint store, they had, you know, the paint samples
5:45
the huge like flip book. I forget what that's called. And at the very end of it, it listed out the RGB colors of all the different colors
5:52
And Microfono is a neutral gray color. And so that's what we use to paint the wall behind me
5:58
One of the other cool things with a neutral gray color like this is if you increase the
6:02
intensity of light that hits it. So you can see probably right around my shoulders, kind of the center of the circle, it looks
6:10
pretty white. If I were to turn this off and turn this off, you see the color gets much, much darker
6:17
The other thing that I could do, this isn't a huge office, but if I were to push the camera
6:22
the desk and the light further away, there's less and less light that hits this wall
6:27
There's another kind of lamp that's hitting the ceiling right now. And that's where you see and plus my monitor
6:31
So that's the other cool thing with a neutral gray color like this is if there's very little
6:37
light hitting it, what comes back to the camera looks black. Or if you have a very intense light hitting it, you can make the wall look white
6:46
So what'd you think? Did I convince you to go out and get a gallon of paint, a paint roller, and to paint a gray
6:50
wall behind you where you're recording your videos and an RGB light so you can switch
6:55
up the colors like so. If you want to learn more about how to record amazing videos, check out the playlist right here
