If you want to follow along with today's tutorial, go to Canva.com, then in the search bar, type in
0:04
YouTube banner and click on the YouTube banner design right here. One thing to keep in mind here
0:11
is please do not use any of these designs. They're not made with the safe area in mind in terms
0:18
of what's going to show up on all devices. So here's what it looks like on a phone, a tablet
0:23
or a computer. A lot of these designs are way outside of those areas. So if you want yours to turn out
0:29
well, just start from scratch and follow the instructions we're going to go through today
0:33
Also, if you don't currently have a Canva account, I'll put our affiliate links down below
0:38
You can either try Canva Pro, the paid version for free for 45 days, or just sign up for a free account
0:44
The thing is here, there's one thing we're going to do where you do require Canva Pro, but
0:48
I'm going to show you some other alternatives. You can do the exact same thing with the free version of Canva
0:53
But let's start our blank YouTube banner design. Here we go with that
0:57
Okay, the first thing I don't like the white background. Let's get rid of that
1:03
Now the most important thing to do this correctly and keep your entire design where it's
1:07
going to show up on all devices is we need the rulers and guides, which is already turned
1:12
on for mine, which are these numbers right here. If you're not seeing them currently, go to file, view settings, show rulers and guides
1:20
If I click on it, it's going to disappear. But if I hit Shift R, you can see, you can turn it on and off like so
1:26
then what we want to do is just grab along the side here click and drag the ruler the first guide we want at 2053 there then at 507 there all right then 508 also i write these down below in the description if you want to make sure that you doing it right and then the last one is 932 So that would be right there Okay So anything we put in this area will show up on all devices
1:56
On computers and tablets, we'll have this part included as well. And the whole thing for a TV
2:02
The main thing, people are going to watch this, watch your content view your channel from their phone
2:06
So this is the most important area. So what else we want to add to this? Let's go to uploads
2:10
I already added our logo. So let's add that here. We don't want this taking up all of the space
2:15
So let's make it something like that works for me. And then what do we want here
2:22
If you hit T, you'll get a text box. So T, there we go. We have text
2:26
This isn't our font. We usually use open sands extra bold. I want to turn on cap lock and say something like some slogan of what your content is going to be about
2:37
So grow your audience online. Okay, so you can see the purple line showing up or pink or whatever that is that align with different things
2:49
So I want to align the left of this text with our logo. Then what I can do is I could either just change the font size like so if I chose to or get an arrow like that
3:01
drag it until it lines up with the right hand side of our logo
3:05
Then these line up on the left and the right. I want a little bit more text
3:09
So I'm going to hit T again. and then what I want here is something related to maybe the frequency you're planning on creating
3:16
content so new videos every week and everything in blue and white is pretty boring so what we're
3:25
going to do here is we have this selected then what I want to do is go to effects and background
3:32
and what do we have here do I want rounded corners or not let go with sharp corners with the spread So how much of the border do we want around the text
3:45
You can adjust that here. Let's go with 81, which is the year that I was born
3:51
Then here for the color, let's use our green. And then I think for me, instead of the white text
3:57
if we go up here, change the color of the text to blue, that just adds a little bit more color than what we have
4:04
add a second ago. I don't think I want to drag this to be the same width
4:08
as our logo and this text. Maybe we will take the text here and center it below the text above
4:19
So something like that. And then here, just thinking through the spacing
4:23
of the logo to the top of this, this to the bottom, maybe I just move everything up just a little bit
4:30
Something like that. That works. Okay. Are you just getting started on YouTube? Well, we recently
4:34
launch a new YouTube course for beginners called four videos in four weeks. During this course
4:38
we'll make sure your channel set up properly will help you come up with an infinitely long
4:41
list of YouTube video ideas. You'll record, edit, and publish your first four videos, as well as
4:46
develop a plan so you can continually create content and grow on the platform. If you want to learn
4:51
more about this cohort-based course, check out the link in the description below. Now let's add a
4:54
picture of me. I kind of like this one. The thing is here. Here is something that is really easy
5:00
with Canva Pro. It's going to take a little extra work if you want to do it for
5:04
either we have a video about how to remove the background or you can put it in a frame like
5:10
we're showing right here but i'm going to cheat and use canva pro boom the image is going to
5:17
have the background deleted there is that now let's adjust the size so for me what i end up doing
5:22
here is only on a tv would you see the part below this line so i think I want to make the image a little smaller maybe to something like that
5:34
And then this, if someone is viewed it on a TV, I don't know if I want the rest of the image here
5:39
So maybe I just go and do something like that. And then from here, there's a couple of different things
5:44
we do for our thumbnails and other images we use. You can go to edit image
5:49
Within adjust, you can change the brightness like so. maybe add some contrast and maybe a little saturation maybe the white bounces off I'll make it a
6:01
touch cooler there that could be good for the image another thing that we do to make the
6:07
image stand out more in some of our thumbnails and other images like this is we add a
6:12
border around it or a shadow as it's called so if you go to glow like this then click on
6:18
edit so we usually increase the size slightly transparency you can hundred blur zero then change the color so maybe something like that would work obviously feel free to
6:34
get as great as if you want for whatever reason the name is kind of strange so the fig co banner
6:40
23 if you're happy with this banner we can download it would be the next step and there we have a banner
6:50
The next thing is to go to your YouTube channel, add the banner, and here's how our new banner
6:54
is going to look on a computer, tablet, phone, as well as on a TV
6:59
If you want some additional help in terms of designing things for your YouTube channel
7:04
there's two videos that I would recommend for you. The first of which is how to create YouTube thumbnails
7:08
You can watch that video up above, or if you want to learn how to make your watermark
7:12
which will help you get additional subscribers. You can do that below. Hope to see you in another video
7:17
Bye-bye
