A large tree fell onto a vehicle near the intersection of East Prairie Avenue and Pierce Street. The alert video also shows standing water on several streets following the heavy rainfall. A traffic signal at the Highway 275 and Highway 81 intersection was malfunctioning and flashing red in all directions. Drivers were instructed to treat the intersection as a four-way stop by coming to a complete stop, proceeding in the order vehicles arrive, and yielding to the vehicle on the right when vehicles arrive at the same time. The warning also urged people to avoid unnecessary travel, slow down, never drive through standing water, and watch for fallen trees, debris, and downed power lines. The storm impacts occurred on the evening of July 30 into July 31, 2026, as severe thunderstorms moved through northeast Nebraska, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and localized flooding. Norfolk recorded nearly 2 inches of rain.
