Los Angeles, United States - June 15, 2026 06/14/2026 10:30 pm GMT-0700 SANTA ANA, Calif. – A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed by Santa Ana police late Sunday after officers responded to a family dispute involving a stabbing and a knife, authorities said. Officers were dispatched about 10:30 p.m. to the 3400 block of South Main Street after a 53-year-old man reported that his girlfriend’s son was under the influence, vandalizing property and armed with a knife, Santa Ana Police Officer Natalie Garcia said. When officers arrived, they heard family members arguing inside the apartment complex and entered the property, said Garcia. Officers learned the 53-year-old man had been stabbed and that the 16-year-old was still armed with a knife. Officers gave the teen several commands to drop the knife, but he refused. An officer-involved shooting then occurred. The teen died at the scene. The 53-year-old man was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The teen’s mother was also injured and treated at the scene. No officers were injured. Investigators recovered a knife, but Garcia said other weapons may have been inside the apartment complex and that the investigation remains preliminary. A heavy police presence remained in the area early Monday, with Main Street closed between Columbine Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard for several hours. The shooting is being investigated by the Santa Ana Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division, the department’s Homicide Unit, and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Santa Ana Police Department at 714-245-8700.
