Kampala, Uganda Ugandan youth transforms waste into sustainable animal feeds booster using black soldier fly larvae. (JULY,14) – A Ugandan youth is transforming organic food waste into sustainable animal feeds booster and organic bio fertilizers using black Solider Fly Larvae(BSFL) technology Nakadama Olivia, aged 24 years together with her two colleagues started in Jan 2025, nutricycle farm Uganda a biotech social enterprise that transforms organic food waste into sustainable animal feeds and organic bio fertilizers booster using Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL). A biotech social enterprise located in Buikwe district, Central region of Uganda, was started with an aim of helping local livestock farmers to reduce on over depending of animals on human feeds and also improve their income livelihoods. Nakadama said during an interview that they use organic waste from restaurants, local markets, home and schools to culture black soldier flies which in turn is nutritious feed for livestock like poultry, piggery and fish. “we are using the technology of black soldier flies to come up with our animal feed supplements, which are in liquid form. So, we realized that black soldier fly larvae, it's a nutritious insect in proteins, and researched about the pigs and poultry, that these animals need a lot of proteins for their growth. So we came up with an idea of starting Nutricycle Farm by recycling organic waste into sustainable animal feeds, of which we come up with our liquid animal supplement,” she said. Nakadama said that they came up with this idea to solve the problem of high costs attached to animal feeds. It was mainly challenging livestock farmers, specifically those who are in poultry, piggery. “farmers were facing it hard for them to buy the existing feeds, let me say the commercial feeds, on the market. And also the high rate, the competition between silverfish and soybean, which are the main sources used to produce animal feeds. We also thought of how we can reduce dependency of animals on human feeds. We came up with this idea of rearing black soldier fly larvae,’” She said. Usage. Nakadama explained that nutrigrow animal booster is made in a multipurpose way, whereby a farmer or poultry farmer can measure five milliliters and mix it one litre of water before giving it to poultry bird.
