India: Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi stages an indefinite protest at the Assam Assembly campus.

Guwahati, India - October 03, 2026 Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi on Friday began an indefinite sit-in protest at the Assam Legislative Assembly premises, demanding enhanced compensation for flood-affected people in four eastern districts of the state. Gogoi said the protest would continue until the state government accepted his demands, including compensation of Rs 10 lakh for each flood-affected family in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat. In a social media post, Gogoi said his indefinite satyagraha would continue inside the Assembly premises until the government fulfilled its commitment to provide Rs 15,000 as one-time interim financial assistance to flood-affected people in the four districts, along with an additional Rs 10,000 for flood-affected people in two other districts.
