If you're deciding between a regular walker and a rollator, then this video is for you
0:04
Today I'm comparing these two. On the right I have this one by Drive Medical
0:08
and on the left I have this one by Homland. And I'm going to start with assembly. And it's
0:13
going to be no surprise that assembling the walker by Drive Medical is going to be a lot easier
0:17
because this comes with a lot less parts. It has the folding mechanism right over here
0:22
and all you really have to do is just attach the legs. There's going to be the legs and then the
0:27
leg with the wheels and the way to do so is with this push pin mechanism so you pull it out and
0:34
this is what it looks like and when you want to put it back in just press and there you go and the
0:39
same thing goes with adjusting it so if this part is too high simply press the push pin and then just
0:45
go to whatever size you want and these are going to be in inch increments and here on the side you
0:50
could see there's going to be eight of these so you would just adjust that on all four sides
0:55
Now let's take a look at the Hamlin one. This one is going to be a different story and it not going to be as easy as this one and that because this is made up of a few more parts mainly this knob right over here so to actually be able to assemble this you going to
1:10
have to attach a bolt a washer and then this knob and when you want to make adjustments so if this
1:16
is too high or too low you're going to have to take all that off again and do it all over and
1:20
it's going to be a lot more time consuming and a lot harder than the one by drive medical now let's
1:27
take a look at weight and it's again no surprise that this one by Drive Medical is going to be far
1:31
lighter and when we actually use this scale this is going to be 5.75 pounds. Again extremely light
1:40
easy to move and then when I do the same test on this one by Homelun I'm getting 18.74 pounds
1:49
which is going to be far heavier than this one. Now let's take a look at storage and this is one
1:54
of the benefits that you're going to get with a rollator because on just a regular walker
1:58
there's not going to be anything over here that you could store. So I get this out of the way and let take a look at this one by Homeland So right over here on the seat you just lift this up and then right over here you going to have this storage baggie where you can store some stuff you can put some shoes you can put a little bit of groceries
2:14
And when it's done, you just close it off and then use it as regular
2:20
And when we take a look at braking, this is only going to be on the rollator here. And the brakes are right over here by the handles
2:25
You just pull it upwards and it's going to engage the brakes. and if you want to stay still and prevent this from moving, just push downwards and the bottom
2:33
wheels are going to lock in place. And then you could just easily just pull that up so you can
2:38
start engaging it again. Now folding is going to be very different with both of these and let's
2:42
start with the one by Drive Medical. So up the top, you're going to have these two buttons that
2:46
say push. Just push it and hold down and then you can move the side and then we can do the same thing
2:52
on the other side and this is going to fold very flat and then you can put this somewhere like over
2:57
over there between the couch, or you could just slide it, place it against the wall like so
3:03
Now this one by Hamland is gonna be a bit different. We're gonna have to lift the seat again
3:07
and there gonna be this strap right here Just pull it upwards and on the left side there gonna be this Velcro strap which you can velcro on just to prevent this from falling and there it is and unlike the one by Drive Medical this actually can stay in place like this doesn need any support and opening
3:22
it up is fairly easy too, just unlock that, push down, push the seat and the homeland one is opened
3:30
and now the Drive Medical just pull these two like so and that's it. Now what about actually
3:36
using it. So these two are going to be pretty different because when you take a look at the walker, you are going to have to just move it like this. That's why it being lightweight is going to
3:45
be advantageous. Now it does have some wheels, so you potentially could slide in place like this
3:51
Just keep in mind that this is going to be dragging the bottom part there, so it may leave
3:57
some marks on your floor, maybe even scratch on it. And that's going to be different when we take
4:01
a look at a rollator itself because this one is actually meant to roll around very easy and then
4:08
when you could turn you could back up as well too you could turn around and you can also break
4:14
when you need to but hopefully this video helped you out and thanks for watching
