If you've been looking for a walker, you probably came across this one by Drive Medical
0:03
This is one of the most top-rated ones. So today, I'm going to do a quick unboxing, set this up, and let you know my thoughts of it
0:09
So for starters, it does come in this fairly thin box. So if you're someone who can't lift a lot of weight, you won't have a problem actually moving this around
0:17
It's also fairly thin. Here you can see I could grab this just with my hands
0:22
And here it is compared to my body. So when I pull it out, here's what it looks like
0:29
yeah that's basically about it that's the box and everything comes folded flat
0:34
just like so in this plastic baggie and so the only tool I'd recommend basically
0:42
to get this up and running would be a pair of scissors that's to remove this
0:46
part over here and also does come with these zip ties here that can just be cut
0:53
as well. And that's where you can release the wheels. And same thing up top. I can remove this
1:03
little part here. And then this cardboard comes off when I unfold it. So first, let's take a look
1:09
at the legs themselves. And we got one leg over here that has up to eight different positions
1:18
which look to be in one inch increments. So I can raise this all the way up an extra
1:23
or go to the lowest setting depending on height. And then here's the wheels themselves
1:27
Feels pretty strong, and similarly, same thing for the other set And it also comes with this booklet which basically just shows you some extra detail and also how to assemble this So let start with the assembly Let me just back this camera up a little bit more
1:41
And here's the walker itself. So it does have this piece of cardboard, which can be removed once I unfold this
1:47
And so this feels pretty simple. I just move this out. This locks into place
1:53
Same thing with this other part. And this can just be removed. And here's what we have so far
1:58
and now it's time to put everything in place and so to make sure everything goes correctly i'm
2:03
going to reference this booklet and so here you can see that the wheels are going to go in the
2:07
front where this whole folding mechanism is which is going to be right here so it's going to be
2:13
moved to the side and placed inside like so and then there's this also portion over here that i
2:21
can press inside and it'll click into place and i'll do the same thing for the bottom leg and now
2:26
time for the other side. And here it is. But before using it, I do want to show you how heavy this is
2:42
or actually how lightweight this is, since this is very easy to lift up. And so here I have this
2:48
luggage scale. Yep, we're on pounds. Alright, once this stays still, this gives me 5.88 pounds
2:59
so just shy of six pounds. You can get a closer look. Yeah this thing is very lightweight so if you somebody that does not have a lot of arm strength then this is going to be easy to lift up and I 180 pounds and so I want to put
3:16
all my weight against this and just like lift up and yeah my whole weight can go on it
3:23
if I shift to the side yeah we'll say it does have some give on the sides now let's go over a bit
3:29
of the measurements now I currently have this at the highest setting and that's at that level
3:35
eight so let's see how high this is so from the bottom all the way to the handles to about the
3:41
middle of the handle it gives me 38 and a half inches and for the space in between here from
3:50
the end of the handles this is about 20 and a quarter inches and for the inside it's about
3:57
17 and three quarters keep in mind this is from the handles and here's how it fits width wise for me
4:05
And now for the side, let's check this out. This is going to be 11 and a half inches
4:11
So using this walker is fairly simple. I can put my weight to it and just glide along here
4:16
And because this is wooden floor, this kind of glides easily against it
4:21
And because it also has wheels, I can put like more pressure in the front. And it feels like it's easier to roll around
4:27
Of course, you can use this like a regular walker where you just kind of move around if you want
4:31
but because the wheels are there it does make it easier just to roll instead of constantly lifting up and putting extra strain on your arms and shoulders So this type of walker seems to be good if you just want something simple If you don want a roller walker where you have to constantly grip the brakes and if you don have a lot of like hand strength then this will be easy since all you have to do is just put your
4:54
weight on it and move around, glide around. And let me see how it does when it comes to turning
5:03
So if I just kind of keep that leg at the back in place I can sort of turn in place. I'm kind
5:09
of gliding around. Now, of course, depending on the material or the floor, it is going to be
5:14
and feel different. But so far moving around this wood floor does feel pretty easy, pretty simple
5:24
And when it's time to fold this up, just look at the front over here. There's going to be these
5:29
two red tabs this just has to be pushed down and you do need some force for this so maybe using
5:39
your hand will make it easier and then push it inside let's see like so then same thing on the
5:49
other side and it folds into this flat part which you could easily store in a car or you can hang it
5:57
somewhere as well too or put it in a closet because it's not going to take up too much space
6:01
and again when it's time to open up just pull it out and make sure that does lock into place you're
6:07
going to hear that latch just like that and then just double check make sure it doesn't go inside
6:13
and it's ready to be used but yeah that's a quick look at the drive medical walker
