We're all living in our dreams right now, working in our passions. And when you hear all those names, we were
0:05
talking about this earlier, that are a part of a Merry CQ Christmas. This is something that your grandmother could go
0:11
to, your mother could go to, and you could bring your kids. And I'm going to
0:16
do something special right now. I want you all to go to new york symphony.com,
0:22
get your tickets because they will sell out. But honestly, Heather, we got the
0:28
architects here and I'm just looking at the accolades. And this is why you get SiriusXM. Where else are you going to
0:33
get this tandem on one show? I'm just going to read off some of the accolades. I wrote them down, Heather, before
0:41
they came here, man. I I had to. First of all, this man is completely became
0:48
the world's therapist back in 2020 when he created Club Quarantine. It was the
0:54
most surreal thing for me to watch him all the time, knowing that this is my friend. This is somebody I know have
1:01
been doing this way before the world had discovered him. This is somebody who's always been true to his passions,
1:06
whether it was photography, whether it was producing, whether it was MCing. And the same was true when it came to his
1:13
DJing. And so when you reach certain heights, DJing becomes more than just about techniques and learning a style.
1:19
You it becomes a way of communication. And the reason why we all felt great whenever we saw him, we felt safe
1:27
whenever we saw him is because of the vibrations he created by mixing and
1:32
blending music that came from his heart. And we could feel the authenticity. Club
1:37
Quarantine became legendary, ladies and gentlemen. Millions of views.
1:44
Come on, man. This man has since performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Apollo. He's done it all. I
1:52
read it earlier. 2020 TW 2020 Webbby Award, the honorary BET recipient of the
1:58
Shine a Light Award, the NAACP award, Entertainer of the Year, the Ascot Voice of Culture Award, the Homie Award, we
2:05
give them in hip hop. Ladies and gentlemen, the one and only D.
2:13
[Applause]
2:18
I say it every time she comes here. Yes. One of the first crushes I ever had.
2:23
You always say it and you remind her every single time and let us know and you put on that button-down shirt every
2:30
time. HB, my crush coming. I don't know what you talking about. Any other time we get the t-shirt sway, but when Tisha
2:37
comes, the button down comes out. The buttons start popping and the heat start flowing. And
2:43
I never notice I'm noticing. There you go. I'm real single right now.
2:52
I'll be your road manager playing with me. Okay.
2:57
But I often say uh see we family now but I can still have my childhood crush. You
3:03
can't take that away from me. Uh one of the most outstanding host
3:09
Yes. that you're ever going to meet is Tisha. Uh Tesha Campbell. When you start
3:15
co-hosting the Soul Train Awards, you did that for years. Um, you really showed people the extent of your talent.
3:23
I call you a quadruple plus. Oh, wow. Threat because I don't know how to say
3:28
at the quadruple. I know. That's true. That's all there is. That's all there is.
3:37
I don't I don't know, man. But from um Martin to my wife and kids, um all the
3:43
different accolades you received, all the different projects you've done, uh NAACP award have the beef for
3:50
outstanding actress in a comedy series, BET comedy award, outstanding lead actress in a comedy series, independent
3:55
spirit award nominee, uh multiple NAACP image award nominations, NAACP Image
4:01
Award nominations across the board for my wife and kids, for Rita Rocks, and she's here today and she's going to
4:08
hosting a Merry CQ Christmas and her comedy is tremendous. I love watching her on Instagram. I love how she
4:14
integrates her family in her skits and it's all so natural and funny. And I want to I want to thank you, Tisha,
4:20
because anytime I ever seen anything you've done, you like Dice, you've made me feel
4:26
good. You made me feel great about myself and I enjoy that at this stage in my life. That's all I look for in this
4:33
stage in my life. And I just got off of FaceTime with Tisha's mom and she said, "Sweigh, I love you. Come over anytime."
4:41
God,
4:47
what's up, boo? You know, we got Tracy from New York.
4:52
Always good seeing Kani. Torch Keani DB. What is What's the
4:58
origin story of this tandem? We've known each other since the '9s.
5:03
Really? Yeah. Really? Yeah. We've kn like like us. We've known each other since the '9s, but then
5:11
what happened? I feel like you've just always been there. Like we've always been around and I saw him
5:18
at a club and then we just kind of we linked up and I'mma tell you like my
5:24
whole new journey with like doing standup is because of DN. Because of DN. Oh, damn. She her earring
5:30
popped up. Lost my earring. Yeah, that's the excitement though. excitement. You see this [ __ ] disappeared, rolled away.
5:37
Yeah. You know, no, but it's because of him. When we did um when we did uh um club quarantine at the Kennedy Center,
5:43
we did a full weekend. So, we had one night of comedy, one night of um you know,
5:48
club quarantine hypn then we had praise and worship on Sunday all at the Kennedy Center Opera House um for a full
5:55
weekend. So, when I I called Tisha, I was like I was on my way anyway. I was coming I
6:00
was coming just to support him and uh he called me and was like my host fell out.
6:06
Would you Yeah. would you host? And she said absolutely. Yeah. I was but then but then
6:11
what made you ask her to host? Wait wait wait wait after that. He goes Yeah. So it's it's the comedy. I
6:19
was like yeah I could bring people up. Sure. No problem. Who's performing? Sher Shepard, Michael Chay, uh Chris Spencer,
6:26
Zab, like a bunch of amazing Oh, Gina Yasher, big huge comedians. And then he
6:32
was like, "Yeah, do 15 minutes before." I was like, "Huh?" Wow. Threw you in there. Threw me in there.
6:39
And look, look, that's what you're doing now. But by the time I got off stage, I had an agent. Yes. Literally agent. I mean, you didn't have
6:46
an agent when you started? Not a stand-up agent. Okay. And so she was in the audience. Yeah. She was in an audience
6:51
and she she called Chris and I'm coming off for my first 15 and Chris says yo this my agent she want
6:57
to represent you and I was like what and that's how it started all because of
7:02
this guy right here. Yo man, this is God something I was scared to do my whole life.
7:08
Something you were scared to do and he helped. He was the conduit. Yes. God used the knife for that. Do y'all
7:13
find it fascinating like um we've been promoting my partner King Tech and I are doing a big event Sunday. Okay. Uh
7:20
called for the culture. We're going to honor Large Professor Supernatural Ken Swift and original original rock
7:26
steady crew, Crooked Eye and Raz because we want to do it nice, right? Because we it's out of our
7:32
pockets. And when we put the call to action out, everybody came forward and wanted to
7:38
participate even Heather B, which is hard to do. Hold on. But it helped.
7:43
Wait, wait, wait. I don't see my text. Did he hit you? He didn't. No. No. Well, I was going to invite you Sunday.
7:49
All right. Uh, I didn't want you to work. You know, nights always got you working.
7:54
I didn't want you to work. But, but one thing I realized that brought me joy is we were
8:00
chasing the rabbit coming up, you know, we was and we didn't always know what was ahead
8:05
of us, especially in acting, right? DJing, photography, being in hip-hop.
8:11
Now, we're at a place where we could we we bring the rabbit. We are the rabbit. And to know that my
8:19
influence or my relationships, Heather's relationships, your relationships, her
8:24
relationships can create something like this Christmas concert that you're doing
8:29
that we could combine resources. That's right. We're combining resources, bro. I'm getting emotional hear you speaking
8:36
about this, you know, and how and the importance of um of all of those relationships, you know, when you when
8:42
you actually think about who I am to the core. I'm I'm truly a hip-hop guy obviously, you know, and by the time,
8:49
you know, I was 21 years old, they said I was old school, right? So, I had to find a way and find a way
8:54
doing things that I loved. So, the only reason why I'm able to be here now DJing is because no one wanted me to rap back
9:00
then and it and and thought that I was old school at 21 and and now at 55, they
9:05
think that I'm 45. You know what I mean? They should have given me those 10 years back then,
9:12
right? That's true. No, but it's it's a blessing to to be able to have incredible friends. And
9:18
it's not even just about our our CQ show. Like I'm really friends with Tisha. You know what I mean? Like we really
9:24
check on each other. You know, we've had Thanksgiving dinner together. You know, like it's Let me see my invite.
9:33
I know. You better look. Yeah. No, but it's it's beautiful to be here doing what we love, man.
9:39
It's It's great, man. We're talking about December 19th, a merry cq Christmas. I'm coming home.
9:44
Okay. Tisha's coming home. Day going to be there next. Y Marley, Kenny Burns,
9:49
Shirley Jones, Chub Rock, uh Coffee Brown, and more. Tisha, how does what
9:54
we're talking about cuz people look at folks in entertainment um as we're something different like we're
10:02
like bad people. Bad people. Yeah. Everybody's Yeah. No. Yeah. You know, well, with him it's in the it's in the
10:08
name D Nice. He's really a nice guy. He's really a nice person.
10:14
He's a nice person. But so are you. But I think why I think you're so brave is people, you are figuring it out. You've
10:22
been figuring it out in front of us. Yes. Right. Most of us will hide until we
10:27
figure it out and then we'll present what that that that outcome is. Yeah. Why I think that's so brave and
10:33
courageous is that you don't have to be an entertainment to figure it out. But
10:38
by Tesha Campbell, who you seen on every height showing you that look, I'm working this thing out. That means you
10:44
can too. You could be a MTA driver. You could be a uh whatever it is you may do. You
10:50
might work in maintenance. You might be a painter. Yeah. And and you trying to figure something else out.
10:55
Yeah. You can do it at any stage in your life. What have you learned about yourself in this process?
11:00
In the process of which part? Just in general from the time I started.
11:06
Yeah. Like you didn't start as a you were comical but you didn't do standup. No, no, no. I I didn't do and and I
11:12
wasn't a comedian either. So I had to figure that out. I literally started doing drama first. I came from the
11:18
theater and I I studied Stannislovski method and Udah Hogan and all of the
11:24
things. But um I had to fall into and I had to figure it out because I had to
11:30
feed my family. And I think that was the greatest motivation for everything was
11:35
nothing was for me. Nothing was for myself. Everything was to help for the
11:42
betterment of everybody else. Like I told you guys the story about me went in a car. And by the way, I was 5 years old
11:50
and it was at North Symphony Hall. So this will be the first place. This is I don't I didn't tell you this.
11:55
No, you didn't tell me. This is the first place I ever performed at in a professional setting was Symphony Hall.
12:02
So I'm literally going home into the first place I've ever performed
12:07
professional. So when he called me I was like hell
12:12
yeah. I mean I couldn't do Newark without Tisha. I didn't even reach out to
12:17
anybody else in terms of like the other artists. I was like coming home. I was like Tish I'm doing Newark
12:23
Symphony Hall. Can you rock with me? He didn't even say we're like
12:29
the R off. No, that was it. How big is this? You're from Jersey. Like to see all of these people
12:35
congregating for the a Merry CQ Christmas December 19th. So you have to look at it almost like
12:41
Newark Symphony Hall is the Apollo of Jersey. Okay. Right. Before it was the
12:47
performing arts center and all of these fabulous places. New Symphony Hall was right there in the bricks in the heart
12:53
of the city with Dr. Jay's was down the street and vimar bear burgers all of the y no that's how
13:01
it's been a staple right tisha it's been right I'm telling you it's been a staple market
13:06
broaden market it's been a staple right there and so to have this come back to
13:11
the city something like this featuring a lot of Jersey artists by the way I think it's incredible but what I wanted to
13:17
touch back on too su is the power of relationships because you and I were talking about that earlier and I was
13:24
saying to Sway Hey, Derek and I have known each other since we were 18 and I think Yeah. on tour together.
13:30
Yeah. Started out Derek is a founding member of Boogie Down Productions. I came on because Chris was my music
13:36
mentor. And when I say like 18, we were on tour buses together. We were in going
13:43
to shows, go back to the hotel, get back on the tour bus. I remember when Derek was a solo. I remember them saying
13:50
self-destruction that they were using D Nice's version of self-destruction. His re his version of it. I didn't even know
13:56
that there were like two versions of a song. It was there was my version was the only one. Well, that's that but that's what I'm
14:03
saying. Like people didn't know that about him because he was DJ, you know,
14:08
but there was a producer going on inside of that as well. And so every all the
14:13
ups and downs that the music industry throws at you and and the entertainment industry as well to see people connect.
14:21
Every time I see Derek, I be like, "We still here." That's our running joke. Like, "We still here. We still here.
14:27
We don't take it for granted. We don't take it for granted." I want to shout out Rebecca Foster who works very
14:32
closely with Derek who was my roommate on the road back at that time because
14:37
Yeah, she was my roommate. How long I've known Becky? Oh my god. because KS1 was married to Miss Melody. So, they were together in
14:44
the room and then there was a bunch of guys and then Rebecca and I were the only other two females. So, we were
14:50
roommates together. This I'm going back to 1990, you know what I mean? So, to
14:55
sit here going into 2026 and could look Tisha in the face cuz every time we
15:00
always saw each other, we gave each other sister hugs. Not even having known each other since 19. Just I feel you
15:07
sis. Yeah. And to be able to pick up the phone and call these two or see these two at any time and go, I see what you doing. I
15:12
love you. I'm happy. Happy new It means a lot. Nurture your relationships, y'all. For
15:19
everybody who's seeing this and hearing this, nurture your relationships. It's more valuable than any plaque, check, or
15:25
anything in the world because those are not always consistent, but the good relationships are. I always say money is not my god, and it
15:32
never was. And so the only thing that I have for for me that I can say nobody
15:40
could take away were the relationships that I fostered. I was good to people and people are good to me.
15:46
And so I I keep fostering those types of relationships and they're really
15:51
important like absolutely absolutely you remember the good people and keep God in it. I'm telling you too.
15:57
I I I moved to LA in 2020 the end of 2017 I mean the end of 2018 going into
16:04
2019 because I wanted to get out of DJing. 2020 was supposed to be my last
16:09
year of DJing and I was moving into film and television production. Like that was my goal. That's why I was out here.
16:15
Didn't have family like that out here. And then God had a totally different plan. The world stopped. I I I was quitting
16:22
DJing because I didn't think that people showed enough love to to DJs, to black DJs, to urban DJs, to hip-hop
16:30
DJs. We weren't on those stages. We weren't on those We weren't playing the Hollywood Bowl. We weren't doing that
16:36
stuff. So, I just had enough of it. And I was like, "All right, I'm out of here. I'm good. This is it."
16:42
And then a few months later, my whole life changed based on DJing where now I was able to get on those
16:48
stages. I played Carnegie. I sold out the Hollywood Bowl. We sold out [ __ ] the Walt Disney Concert Hall. You know what
16:55
I mean? Matter of fact, we sold out Carnegie twice. You better tell them something. D Knight. What I'm talking about.
17:00
But was DJing your first love? That was Was that all? DJing was my first love. Yeah. DJing was
17:06
But I wasn't a party DJ, right? I was KRS's DJ. So I played the 10 songs
17:11
that we were performing. DJing. I owe this all to Q-Tip and Mark Ronson.
17:16
Oh my god. because no one was inviting me out to their parties. And then they had this party in New York City called
17:22
Authentic [ __ ] you know, and it was at a place called Table 50 on Broadway. And it was a little small place, hell,
17:29
probably around 75 people. And Tip invited me out. He was the only artist that really invited me out to anything.
17:35
Like nobody was even reaching out. And I went and I stood in front of the DJ booth and I could not believe that they
17:42
were playing what they were playing. Like cuz I wasn't going to parties. So to be in a party with all of these young
17:48
people and and Mark Ronson is playing Brand Nubians and Tip got on playing
17:54
James Brown and everyone's in there dancing. I was I called Chris Lighty up at 2:00 in the morning like I think I
18:00
want to DJ and and Chris said, "Are you sure you want to get back into this
18:06
because they are animals now?" And I was like, "Yeah, I think that's what I want to do." I felt it. And so to
18:13
to have been that person to see where I am now like I don't I don't open up for anyone
18:19
anymore. I am my own I'm my own artist, you know, and and it's a beautiful feeling. And
18:24
it's a beautiful feeling to be able to share these stages with my family. Everyone that I've done these shows
18:30
with, these aren't people that I just randomly reached out to. These are the songs that that got the
18:36
world through a dark time. It really did. That's the music. We were playing Morris Day, but we were also playing Ari Linux,
18:42
you know what I mean? Like when they all reach out to me like, "Hey, let me get on that show." You know, and I'm like, you know, it's it's a beautiful feeling
18:48
knowing that we can all do this together. Amen. And we're healing we're healing the world together. Healing the world.
18:54
I was a healing. Another another first that um that he doesn't know about is that the very
19:00
first pilot of a sitcom multi- camera that I've ever did was with Morris Day.
19:06
That's crazy. Oh my god, Tisha. You're You're better than Kevin Bacon.
19:12
My gosh. Yes. Tisha got a story with everybody. I didn't realize that. It was Rob Reiner and Castle Rock and it
19:20
was the first pilot of a of a multi- camera that I had ever gotten. So that
19:26
was the first comedy piece I had ever gotten. Wow. Wow. I love it. Morris Day. He had his own pilot.
19:31
I want to see your oneperson show on Broadway. It's coming. It's coming. That's why I'm
19:37
doing standup. Oh, okay. I'm doing standup because my ultimate goal is to be like Whoopi Goldberg and
19:43
to do a onew woman show on Broadway. That's going to happen. That's it's already happening. I feel like that's in
19:49
the process already 26. There you go. And then and then you guys, I just
19:55
finished two days ago my book on autism. Wow.
20:00
I wrote it myself. I didn't even have a ghostriter. my editor. I had a book editor, but not a ghost
20:07
writer. I should have had a ghost writer cuz this [ __ ] was hard. But I told you, right? This [ __ ] is hard. Get a ghost
20:13
writer. Get a ghost writer. But I had a an amazing book editor and I'm with Harper Collins and they really
20:19
believe in this and I really think I could help a lot of people and so it's coming out in the fall. So anyway, just
20:25
finished two days back. This is May I mention it? She's a awesome mother. So we going to celebrate in
20:32
There you go. New York is taking place a Merry CQ Christmas. It's a concert by Dice hosted by Tisha Campbell at the New
20:39
York Symphony Hall December 19. Go to new york symphony.com. It's Friday. Yeah, that's Friday. Is that Friday?
20:44
The 19th. Friday. Yes. We got Kenny Burns. We got Morris Chestnut. I mean Morris Chestnut. Morris
20:50
Day. Look at you. I see where your mind is. No, I wasn't at Morris Chestnut's ass. That's my boy. All right. So more day we
20:57
have uh next YG Marley Jaheen
21:03
Chub Rock I love Chub man's Shirley Jones of the Jones girl.
21:08
Oh my god. She going to kill it. Brown coffee brown it too.
21:14
We are going to have an amazing Christmas and we want to celebrate with y'all. We We made it through this year.
21:20
Amen. We made it through this year. We need to celebrate. I didn't even tell you who else we have. Who? We have KG from Naughty by Nature
21:27
because Kay produced most of those records. That's why Rebecca and I were very specific and strategic about who we
21:34
booked because we also wanted it to feel like Jersey. Yeah. So K. So Kay is going to come out and
21:39
rock with me. You know, I'm excited about K going to drop. Is he going to throw
21:44
the um all Glocks down instrument on? It's right. Would you go find yourself
21:50
taking it back to your rap game? KG too is somebody who's under
21:55
acknowledged his contribution to music next like so many people. We got people
22:03
on the phone lines. 8887423345. Citizens, give these amazing spirits a
22:09
call. Give us a call now. We got Jay from Ohio on the line. Jay, what's good? What's up, Jay?
22:15
Hey, what's up? What's up? Hey, what's up, Heather? What's up? Hey. Hey, teacher. You only I can say you go girl.
22:22
You've been doing this a long time, okay? And I'm so proud of you. I I've been watching you from House Party,
22:29
girl. Man, I see I see some of the old stuff. One day I was looking at the movie. I'm like, damn, she was in that.
22:34
You've been killing me, girl. I ain't going to lie. Um I want your flowers. I want to tell you keep doing what
22:40
you're doing. And I want you I want you to be make keep being amazing. Okay? And D nice.
22:45
All I can say is my name is D Nice. My name is D Nice. You've been you've been killing that [ __ ] for so long, man.
22:51
and you like then you reinvented yourself and came back even harder. So that's what you know I'm in my 50s too.
22:58
So when you could reinvent yourself and come back and kill it 10 times harder
23:03
than you did the first time from the 80s to all the way this 2025 about to be 26 and you still on top man. Listen, I'm
23:11
got to give you flowers. Keep doing what you doing. Y'all stay on top. And um
23:16
girl, I'm so proud of you. I just I love you. I think you're the best. And um keep
23:22
doing what you doing for real. I appreciate that. We appreciate that. Hey Jay, you uh you a citizen, brother.
23:28
We appreciate you, man. Tracy G, you wanted to chime in? I got to, man. I got to especially for
23:33
you two. D Miss Campbell,
23:38
we love you so freaking much. And when you were talking about like nurturing relationships through all of these
23:45
decades and it made me think because you guys are household names, you guys have
23:50
been able to reinvent yourself in so many ways and be celebrated for all of those ways. But does it create any
23:58
hesitancy with new friendships at this stage in your career? Because oftent
24:04
times when you hear about success it's like okay the circles get tighter, no new friends. But there are still people
24:11
within society that can deposit beauty into your world, you know, who can also
24:18
be um extensions of who you guys currently are and reflect your spirit.
24:23
So, I'm just wondering like how do what are the boundaries and the green flags
24:29
and maybe the red flags that help you determine if a friendship is right in
24:34
2025 and beyond? Well, I can say for me, um, look, if
24:40
this if this stage of my life and the success that I've been having, uh, was based on me having like a hit record or
24:47
a hit TV show or hit movie, yeah, then I probably would, you know, kind of abide by like the whole no new friends. But
24:55
because this happened, because it was all based on community, based on love,
25:00
based on being vulnerable in front of a camera, you know, I was at home by myself for like half of the year, you
25:05
know, playing music. Um, when when I meet people, all they want to do is to
25:10
share the amount of love that they felt that I gave them throughout throughout the years playing the music. So, I don't
25:17
I don't subscribe to no new friends. I want all the friends that I can have as long as people are coming with good good
25:23
intentions and and you can actually tell, you know, I feel like I I can read energy pretty well and I can tell when
25:30
it's something that's super authentic, you know, and I I I love these relationships that I have and I love the
25:35
new ones that I have, you know. It's it's been great and I'm I want to keep building. Well,
25:45
I got a different story to tell. You already know. already know.
25:54
Let me tell you, listen, my circle has gotten so small,
26:00
even smaller. My whole entire life, I think my sense of discernment was never
26:07
the best, you know, because I was always the fixer. I was always coming and wanting
26:13
to take care of every single person and never putting myself first. And for the
26:18
first time in my life, I'm actually putting myself first. And so that made my circle even smaller. And I'm okay
26:26
with it. Amen. You know what I mean? Like I don't I have enough acquaintances
26:32
to the point where, you know, I have workrelated acquaintances. I have mommy,
26:38
you know, related acquaintances. But friendship friendships, you know, Tasha,
26:43
she therea. What up, T? you know, it gets smaller and smaller
26:50
and I I lean on the ones that I truly truly know from, you know, back in the
26:55
day. Like, you know, Tasha. Yeah. Um, who else? Oh. Oh. Oh, Tasha.
27:03
There you That's dope, though. You know. No, but it's good. like it for
27:08
the first time, I'm actually learning how to have discernment and I'm learning how to push out the the the bad and not
27:17
invite them into my space. And so, um, I have Dice, I have
27:23
Jennifer, I have, you know, um, I have a small group, Danny, and, um,
27:30
just it's a smaller smaller group. My my Thanksgiving dinner this year was four
27:35
people. Amen. M I usually cooked for like 30 to 50. Yes, that's a dope Thanksgiving cuz
27:41
it was so dope. Yeah, I know. That was I had to have Heather was at mine. So, and you know cuz you tricked me. Uh-oh. What
27:48
happened? He promised luxury. Tisha, he told me we were going to this beautiful
27:53
place that he rented in Oakland Hills. And so I heard hills and I thought it was like Beverly Hills. And so I was all
28:00
excited. I packed up me and my husband. You had you got your gown on. It was red
28:05
bean and he sent me to a farm. What? What? It was a ranch. But it was nice. That's
28:11
great. Yeah. What are you talking about? Horse, wild boar. Oh no. Horses, goats, sheep, roosters,
28:20
cockadoo. Yo, let me tell you, Horus, can you describe the scene when you would wake up in the morning and you
28:25
looked out the window of that amazing farmhouse I had?
28:32
But you would wake up, look out the window and see what all peace, man. It's peaceful. Very,
28:37
very peaceful. Of course, from the hood, it was shut. It was peaceful.
28:43
No, I ain't seen nothing but [ __ ] No, I ain't never seen no [ __ ] doom,
28:49
son. nothing but he promised me luxury and that's what I
28:56
got you. I never went out the house, Tisha. I stayed in the kitchen for 3 days
29:02
and cooked. I was like, why are you taking this city girl from Jersey? Oh my god.
29:09
It was bonding. It was a trap. It was a word. It was difficult. It was great, man. Um, look, we got a
29:15
lot of people. I want to take a couple of these calls on mine. And listen, you in for a treat. D Nice has um
29:21
gracefully, graciously agreed to do a set cuz you know we we always be like I
29:27
be almost scared to ask him cuz I asked him so much like hey D you think you could you know that's D nice and I used
29:35
to be at table 50. Yep. Yep. Table 50 was the vibe used to go me and Rich would come Rich nice and come out and hang out with
29:41
y'all and I so I saw that evolution to hear that story. So D nice is going to get on the turntables. We got Ray from
29:47
Compton. Ray, what up Ray? What up, Ray? What up, fam? How y'all doing this
29:53
morning? What's good here? Hey, hey, hey. Ray got that energy. He got that energy. Ray live.
29:58
Hey, brother. Brother D. Nice. I don't know if you remember when uh I just heard your story, but I was on the
30:05
Capitol Jazz cruise ship with you when you moved from uh New York to LA and we had that conversation on the uh
30:12
back side of the York. Yes, sir. I just want to I know exactly who you are.
30:17
I just want to give you a shout out. Give you a shout out, man. And keep
30:23
doing what you're doing. Oh, yeah. We had a ball. We had a ball. Yeah, that was that was great. Oh, yeah.
30:30
Yeah. Slick Rick. Yeah, it was nice. We had a great time. But I just wanted to call you and give
30:35
you a shout out, man. I'm here in LA, too. So, you keep doing your thing, man. I appreciate you. I came club quarantine
30:45
was a beautiful thing, man. That was a beautiful thing. And I went out me and my wife
30:51
Me and my wife went to the uh club quarantine out at Hollywood Bowl that you did. We we enjoyed it.
30:57
Come on now. Wow, man. Thank you, brother. Thank you. Thank you for calling and just sharing that story.
31:03
But I do remember you. I remember being on on that cruise with you and the fact that you see you've seen a
31:08
certain part of my evolution. Wow. Yeah, you told me.
31:13
Yep. Yeah. You told me about that uh that you said your last day sitting in your apartment uh when you got ready to leave
31:20
to come to California. Yep. That was that was great, man. And had some tears, man. I never lived
31:27
anywhere else outside of like the New York area. Yeah, that's exactly what you told me. You said you cried that day and you had
31:33
Yep. I I sat on that floor in tears like, "Wow, I'm really doing this. I'm moving to LA with no family." Yo, stop
31:39
getting me emotional, bro. I'm about to tear up in here right now. Guess what? But guess what? You jumped off that
31:45
cliff and God guided you to where he wanted you to be. Come on, man. Hey, Ray, you're a
31:50
citizen, brother. That's why I'm on in. Yo, I was going to say it's so beautiful being able to watch my friend up on that
31:59
Hollywood Bowl stage where so many people have graced that stage and
32:05
there's my friend DJing. Like it's just amazing to see.
32:10
Thank you, sis. It is. It's my pro, man. All right, I'm going to take one more, man, so we can let him DJ Q from
32:17
Delaware. Start crying. Yeah. Hey, cute. Somebody give D9 some tissue. Good,
32:23
man. We We got a good Oh, yo, we got a toast. We got that cute, what's on your mind?
32:29
Yep. So, I I first want to thank y'all for, you know, letting me on the air. I
32:35
love the show. Appreciate what y'all do. I mean, thank you. I I enjoy it. I gotta I gotta listen to
32:41
y'all every day. So, first of all, I want to say that. But, wow. And Tisha, I want to just say thank you
32:47
for everything you did for the culture cuz you was like that model girlfriend, you know, growing up.
32:53
Thank you. Like how you carried yourself and and we believed that there was no difference between you and Gina, like you were one
33:00
and the same. So, I want to thank you for that. Yeah. And be nice, you know. Thank you
33:06
for for being able Yeah. D nice. Thank you for for doing what you wanted to do, making beats and
33:12
rhymes. Like you was doing it for Kanye before Kanye. Pete Rock before Pete
33:17
Rock. And you know, keep doing your thing. Like, yo, you know, we always remember who Dice
33:23
is. You know what I mean? So, doing what you doing, bro. I appreciate that.
33:29
I never heard that put in though. That was great. Q cuz you know the
33:34
Diamond D large professor all the producers that are also MC's but you were doing that. I was doing that. Most
33:41
people didn't know that I Jack of Spades my beat. I'm still number one. My philosophy like I was doing a lot of
33:48
stuff. I just didn't have any credit because we I was young. We didn't know what credit was. And Derek and and you did this beat.
33:54
Yeah. I found this sample in in London. What? You know what I'm saying? Like and this this was like
34:00
this was the intro for our for the tour that we were on. Uh-huh. I did the beat on the tour bus and then
34:06
they needed a a song for I'm going to get you sucker and then we ended up using this track.
34:11
And if you remember the end of the movie, he comes on at the end of the set when he he's there holding. But I was
34:17
going to say about um D Nice as well that I think too a lot of people don't
34:22
realize he was a teen idol as well. That's right. And so they had LL, right?
34:28
Then it was special ed and and Dice Nice, you know. So, I never thought about that.
34:34
But no, it's it's he was a team idol. I've been, you know, right on that. All right.
34:40
Yo, I'm not going to front. I saw a picture from right on. I had I had a I had on the sleeveless t-shirt, but wait,
34:48
with the jacket with half my shoulder on. Yo.
34:53
Yo, but you were, bro. And it's like I don't think people realize that. So when you
35:01
say 21, because people were fanning over you at 12 and 13, they feel like they
35:06
had like 10 years in their mind. So that's what happened, right? But that's but you were a teen idol. And
35:11
it's that's very rare air, especially in hip-hop because it was L was the mold,
35:17
right? And then here come, you know, special ed. I got it made. And here come D Nice. What?
35:23
My name is D. D Nice. But all the girls call me Derek. Derek. He did that line. Yes. The girls
35:29
call me Derek. Derek is one of those names. You know what I mean? Either Hoopa or all the girls like
35:36
you know Derek. You know what I mean? You know Derek from what block.
35:43
Oh my god. Say it again. Act it out again. Thank you for saying act it out again.
35:49
Acted out again. You know Derek. That's great. That's true man. the best morning for
35:57
sure. All right, but you know, we we got to point these things out. I think it's important. When I look at y'all, I
36:02
promise you, man, it's it's it's just a bright sunshine. You know, and I I see so much history
36:08
and I see so much future. Look what they're doing now. Y'all make sure you join December 19th at a Merry
36:14

36:45
let D nice do his thing. You all right with that, D? Yeah, we got to toast it up though. Oh, yeah. You're right. Oh, Drock.
36:52
I came bearing gifts, bro. What is this you brought? This is a beautiful bottle, by the way. Yes. Yes. Thank you, man.
36:59
This is a beautiful bottle. You designed this bottle? No, no, no, no. I wish I did, man. Okay. Okay. No, no, no. We have an amazing team,
37:05
man. And it's called the uh it's a conac called Martinale. And um we have a great team, Donnie
37:11
Wahberg and I, two of the partners in this. And um yeah, and it's it's you know, not to just sell you on it, but
37:17
you know, it's aged already seven to 10 years. So, we've been This is a whole vibe and we're gonna have We're gonna
37:22
try it out a little bit. I feel like I have to talk like this. You take a sip of that. Well, yeah. I've already been sipping
37:28
since they sat down. She came with the with the ice and everything. Yo, I've already been sipping, you know,
37:33
and this is really nice. You notice no slur speech. I've been going since the time they sat down. Kind of aggressive.
37:38
It's very smooth. It's very smooth. And uh Swear, you have one as well. Can you pass that down?
37:44
Tisha, can I drink out your cup? Oh, wow. Dry off. Do you have
37:49

38:40
Again, it's called once again, what's it called? Martin Gale. This is what you want for your holiday season. Yes.
38:46
Seemed like this would go good with eggnog. Oh, it would go really good in eggnog. Really good in coffee. Really good with
38:51
some Bailey. Yeah. This is nice. Be nice. Thank you, man. That's Yeah. Um I want the bottle that's not open.
