what makes this story so special is
0:01
often we hear a lot of people call the
0:03
show and they tell us about their
0:04
journey and their plight and their idea
0:06
and their concept and they build these
0:09
small businesses and we give folks this
0:11
platform to promote it and then they
0:12
create these networks of people who
0:14
reach out who want to support who want
0:16
to follow and we've seen this happen
0:18
Time After Time and we've been watching
0:20
this happen with blanket pancakes um and
0:24
the thing that's most impressive about
0:25
them even though we spoke years ago they
0:27
would keep in tune with me and tell me
0:29
some of the advanc ments that they made
0:30
as a business and every time I would
0:32
read these messages I would be so
0:34
impressed we even had a few
0:35
conversations I wanted to help and I
0:37
realized that right here is the best way
0:39
I think I could help is to um allow them
0:41
to come on this platform as much as they
0:43
want to talk about their business one of
0:44
the reasons why I think is important uh
0:46
it's cuz small businesses Run America
0:49
you know it's important that we have
0:50
small businesses mom and pop businesses
0:53
as they call them family businesses U so
0:55
you can pass these things on and create
0:57
these family legacies this is how we
1:00
create what they call generational
1:02
wealth these folks have kids who will
1:04
hopefully one day want to take over the
1:06
business and run the business and it
1:08
continues and then it elevates your
1:09
family through the generations this is
1:12
why we do this right now blanket
1:14
pancakes they're thriving give them a
1:16
big round of applause they're shiny they
1:18
they flew up here to cook for us they
1:20
got a lot of opportunities and they got
1:22
a lot of potential uh but they also need
1:25
a lot of help blanket pancakes this is
1:29
how we make small businesses in our
1:31
communities win we have to invest we
1:34
have to invest whether it's through
1:36
marketing promotion or even just money
1:38
finances we have to invest to keep this
1:41
business or businesses like this afloat
1:44
because they're hiring locally they're
1:46
hiring people in from our community
1:48
folks who probably couldn't get jobs
1:50
otherwise uh they're giving people uh
1:53
careers they're doing all of this but it
1:55
started in their own kitchen it started
1:57
in their own kitchen back in 17 wow is
2:01
when they started well probably started
2:03
before that but they started doing the
2:05
research to learn how to thrive in this
2:07
Marketplace of selling pancakes and
2:10
syrup which isn't easy it's a lot of
2:12
product out there right and a lot of
2:14
product that is cheaper than the product
2:16
that perhaps they make and when I say
2:18
cheaper not Monet not just monetarily
2:21
but nutritionally it's cheaper and
2:23
you're paying for what you get so I want
2:26
to give out this information before we
2:28
have this conversation um folks could go
2:30
to start engine we need everybody to
2:33
invest in blanket ps.com go to the start
2:37
engine PL platform and invest in blanket
2:40
ps.com we want blanket pancakes to win
2:44
we want them to keep feeding our kids
2:46
their syrup doesn't have any high
2:48
fructose in it you know even their
2:50
pancake mix they got glucose what you
2:52
call it glut glutenfree is it gluten
2:54
y'all got gluten free we haven't
2:56
released it yet oh I'm going too soon
2:57
I'm sorry my bad I'm jumping the gun my
3:00
Deon was looking at me you blowing it
3:01
dog it was good up until that point
3:04
stumbling over that tongue again all
3:05
right but listen here
3:09
it keep flowing uh what just had to get
3:14
weird frequency Friday if you're
3:17
starting a new business or you got a new
3:20
business off the ground and you need
3:22
some insight and some advice from people
3:24
who learned it from the bottom now they
3:27
here call us up we got Deon and
3:30
Carter from blanket pancakes and syrup
3:32
they here with us right now 888 742 3345
3:37
get this game y'all welcome to the
3:40
show
3:42
back welcome back wow whatever Heather
3:46
thank you guys wow it is a blessing to
3:50
be here with you all today you know it's
3:53
like when you said 2020 when we first
3:55
got connected and I'm thinking about
3:56
some of the stuff you told us the first
3:58
time we you know we spoke M and we had
4:00
that private you know phone
4:02
conversation we couldn't imagine the
4:04
leather world now right now because what
4:06
we've been able to accomplished since
4:08
then we've grown over 10x in those three
4:11
years they they grown 10 times what they
4:13
were in three years God bless so we have
4:17
products in maybe about five stores
4:19
locally we've hit close to 3,000 stores
4:22
since then we have you know reached
4:25
seven figures in our um
4:28
Revenue to double that this year yes yes
4:32
yes and we just opened up our business
4:33
for opportunities for investment wow you
4:36
know we felt like right now it's the
4:37
perfect time for us because we've gotten
4:39
to that stage now where we have we're
4:43
not just starting a concept we got past
4:45
the whole mom and pop stage we got to
4:47
the point now where we're we're we are
4:50
players in this industry whether you
4:53
know people know it or not we have a
4:55
footprint we're working with some of the
4:56
largest restaurant chains in the country
4:59
some of of the largest retailers through
5:01
our own products but also developing
5:03
products for them as well are you able
5:04
to share some of those restaurants and
5:06
retailers unfortunately not
5:10
real yeah wish I could but it it was it
5:14
gives me kind of like a five heartbeat
5:15
one every time I see it because
5:16
literally thousands of stores carry our
5:19
products without our name on it and I
5:21
and I look at the reviews and you know
5:22
some of the viral you know Tik toks and
5:24
people make about some of these products
5:26
and I'm like now why can't you do that
5:28
about blanket literally don't get me
5:31
started because no it's literally the
5:33
same product with a different package
5:35
exactly right but that's just the power
5:37
of exposure and awareness you know and
5:39
you've helped us with that you've helped
5:41
us understand you know how to you know
5:44
share our message you've given us that
5:45
platform and opportunity to do that
5:47
which is why we're here now we feel like
5:49
it's a perfect time in the business
5:51
where we're at where we can now create
5:54
opportunities for economic growth and
5:55
development for others that's it which
5:57
is why we've offered Equity to our
5:59
community not just you know VCS not just
6:02
private Equity because we've taken you
6:05
know some other investors as well but it
6:07
was important that we give the citizens
6:08
an opportunity to invest in blanket
6:11
Devin Carter blanket pancake citizens
6:13
you hear this you could become a
6:14
business owner Equity you can become a
6:17
business owner simply by investing in
6:20
blanket pancakes you become one of the
6:22
owners as well as you become a investor
6:25
go to the start engine platform and go
6:27
to blanket ps.com Cal let's get it man
6:31
let's Elevate
6:32
them we all know that when it comes to
6:35
business there's so many different
6:37
layers and steps and processes within a
6:41
process for you guys starting off when
6:44
you were at the level of a mom and pops
6:46
and then now where we're at with seven
6:48
figures what was the first challenging
6:51
task that had a hell of a learning curve
6:53
but you gained versus what's the most
6:56
challenging aspect
6:58
now
7:00
okay yeah I can give you a lot and
7:03
that's probably why he looked at me
7:04
because we have a lot we have a lot I'll
7:08
let you choose which one you which one
7:10
pick one up so um one of the main things
7:13
were um I I can honestly say is um
7:17
finances you know like um going back to
7:20
that to that biggest piece and not only
7:22
that um finding good people to work with
7:25
that can see your vision and really push
7:27
it out um we noticed that you know it's
7:30
great that we can shout to the
7:31
Mountaintop and tell people hey we got a
7:33
great product but I we we really need um
7:37
for the community to also shout that too
7:41
because at the end of the day when we go
7:43
into the marketplace we're literally um
7:45
competing against these large Brands and
7:47
these large Brands they have the capital
7:49
capital excuse me to actually push um
7:53
whatever you know marketing initiative
7:55
remember when we go back to our first
7:56
deal we had with the first retailer
7:57
foline they were putting against some
7:59
500 stores we had just gotten into our
8:01
Commercial location we had ordered all
8:03
the products to you know get ready to
8:04
ship this out getting a loan and then at
8:07
the last minute they pulled the funds
8:08
yeah so we were literally like maybe two
8:11
three weeks away from you know going
8:13
under and you know fulfilling this
8:15
deal and we were like well what are we
8:17
going to do you know but I keep going
8:20
back to the fact that God didn't bring
8:21
us this far to fail and you know we made
8:23
some phone calls we you know talked to
8:25
our vendors you know we have some
8:28
awesome Partners we have and you know to
8:29
manufacture our products told them what
8:31
the situation was and you know we were
8:33
able to negotiate better terms so that
8:35
we could fulfill that order same thing
8:37
happened when we started with Walmart we
8:38
thought okay now we got this contract
8:40
with Walmart we're going to get our
8:41
products in stores and you know
8:43
everything's going to open up for us so
8:44
we started going to the banks you know
8:46
Char is full of banks everyone was like
8:48
oh that sounds great good luck with that
8:51
yeah you know because they didn't no one
8:53
wanted to be the first to invest in us
8:55
and once we were able SEC cure that deal
8:57
without any funding at that time we
8:59
weren't able to get alone at that time
9:01
when we first got our Walmart deal but
9:03
again being able to be Savvy work with
9:05
the team that we have the people we have
9:07
let them know what's going on they
9:09
believed in us enough to give us that
9:10
opportunity that
9:12
Runway and then you know the finances
9:15
started coming after we proven out that
9:17
we're worth it I remember when we came
9:20
the last show that we had with everybody
9:22
and one of the things that pointed out
9:24
to me was just get started yep so
9:27
honestly when we first started we didn't
9:29
and see you know we we saw a vision but
9:32
we were working towards um just really
9:34
pure passion um and and what we knew
9:37
helped our family and we know that can
9:39
help the others honestly it was we were
9:41
angry when we went to grocery stores and
9:43
we saw that in the grocery store out
9:45
there was really no representation of
9:47
our cpg and there's some good cpg brands
9:50
that you guys have or a good recipe that
9:52
you have um that you just really don't
9:54
know how to get out or whatever but we
9:57
my husband and I when we first started
9:58
of course you know with my health
10:00
complications that's what promoted us to
10:02
start making our own products and when
10:04
we started making our own products it's
10:06
it eventually went to churches to
10:07
friends and it began to grow with word
10:09
of mouth so you know when we to make a
10:12
long story short we took that passion I
10:14
remember the show that we had before and
10:16
the biggest thing that they continue to
10:17
say is just get started even if you
10:19
don't see how you're going to make it
10:21
when you have passion other people can
10:23
see that they reflect off that they
10:24
mirror that and that's how it flows fa
10:26
about works is that yeah you know you
10:28
have to you have to start but at the
10:30
same time you also have to be practical
10:32
I mean we invested everything we had but
10:34
I I made calculated risk you know I made
10:37
sure that hey I'm not going to put my
10:38
family on the street I ain't going to
10:39
you know morg the house away so we were
10:41
very practical with it and we had these
10:44
established relationship well in advance
10:46
so when plan a didn't work we went to
10:48
plan B you know sometimes we even had to
10:50
pull out a plan C but we knew what we
10:53
were doing we knew what we were capable
10:55
of and when we walked into these rooms
10:56
with these large restaurants these you
10:59
know these retailers we walk with
11:00
confidence yeah and they see yeah and
11:03
that's important I love it man Deon and
11:05
Marquita Carter from blanket pancakes
11:07
and syrup are here you got to get that
11:10
vanilla bean you got to get that mixed
11:12
honey that buttermilk you got it they
11:15
got three different types of syrups
11:17
right is it three three up to three now
11:19
right it's three listen they sent me
11:22
something man I was a pancake king for a
11:24
long time I didn't even tell people I
11:25
told people was my mix you see you
11:29
[Laughter]
11:32
I'm joking look we got questions if
11:34
you're starting a business if you want
11:35
to become a business owner you can
11:38
invest go to start engine that platform
11:40
and and look up blanket ps.com and you
11:44
can support our team this is your family
11:47
think how much money you spend on those
11:48
other pancake brands that belong to
11:51
those corporations that doesn't benefit
11:53
your community that doesn't get back to
11:55
your community now it's like you
11:57
investing in your community right they
11:59
said not enough people talk about their
12:01
brand that talk about other brands
12:03
that's really their brand but with
12:04
different brand names ain't that
12:06
something so we got to start talking
12:08
about their brand blanket pancakes and
12:10
syrup you got any questions 888 742 3345
12:14
um we have we have special guests with
12:16
us Deon and Marquita Carter that are
12:18
owners of black blanket pancakes and
12:21
syrup I want to say it again if you want
12:25
to become a business owner and that's
12:27
not in your wheelhouse today is your day
12:31
today is your day you could become a
12:33
business owner simply by investing in
12:35
blanket ps.com go to the start engine
12:38
platform and invest in blanket ps.com
12:42
and know that every time you see that
12:45
brand on the shelves every time you see
12:47
people eating that that brand on their
12:49
plates you might even see it with
12:51
product placement in movies you know
12:53
that you had a lot to do with that and
12:55
that that's something that you have
12:57
proprietorship in that by invested in
12:59
blanket pancakes and syrup they're here
13:02
to share their their experiences as
13:03
small business owners um if you have any
13:06
questions hit us up we gonna go to
13:07
Connecticut Lor's on the line with us
13:09
right now rise and shine Lori what up
13:11
Lori up Lor Lor morning good morning
13:14
good morning good morning start with uh
13:17
Joe Madison fly eagle fly encouraging
13:20
yes uh so motivating um hey Mr and Mrs
13:25
Carter I like that congratulations thank
13:29
you on your growth perseverance I mean
13:32
uh amazing to hear just the small part
13:34
of your story and I'm a small business
13:38
um baking is my Niche um and just wanted
13:42
to ask oh sway I owe you a cake I tried
13:45
to catch you while you were in the DC
13:46
area and miss you um oh that's you yeah
13:49
Lord you owe me cake that's me
13:51
absolutely I do well you know what you
13:53
mean but not we
13:55
here whatever you like okay k k whatever
14:00
you like I tried to catch you and Miss
14:01
Heather while you were here in the DC
14:03
area I live in the DC area now been born
14:05
raised up in Conneticut area so I claim
14:08
Connecticut hard um but whenever you're
14:10
ready uh I will deliver it I will ship
14:12
it you tell me how you want it but uh Mr
14:15
Mrs Carill chill I've been having some
14:18
champagne that conv
14:20
careful all right laor you got a
14:22
question let's get to the question let's
14:23
get back to the profession um just how
14:25
do they stay encouraged I mean just
14:27
hearing the story of having the funds
14:29
pulled at the last minute and just the
14:30
various challenges that you may have how
14:33
do you continually stay motivated and
14:36
encouraged wow I think it's really um
14:39
the vision and knowing what we're doing
14:40
to impact um our community and um not
14:44
just our community but we we see
14:46
worldwide um we know that we're not just
14:49
you know making a pancake mix we're
14:51
making we're literally um we're you know
14:54
hopefully changing lives and changing
14:56
the way people think about food and so I
14:59
think that the biggest thing is you know
15:01
what really keep us encouraged is
15:02
knowing that when we go to work every
15:04
day we're not just working for ourself
15:06
and our Legacy we're working for um the
15:08
community we're working for everyone
15:10
else because if you think about you know
15:12
not getting into the grocery stores but
15:14
the partners that we have now like
15:15
Walmart and um Costco the people who you
15:18
know you know saw the vision taste our
15:21
product and gave us the opportunity this
15:23
is the same thing we told them you know
15:25
we need to disrupt the the the um
15:27
grocery outs because it's too many
15:29
products that's not representing exactly
15:32
what we need you know so that's honestly
15:34
what give us the encouragement to to go
15:36
on you know and also just you know I
15:40
would say you know one of the things we
15:42
talk about a lot is legal Excellence yes
15:44
everything we do has to be excellent
15:47
and we do that because it's demanded of
15:51
us that this is the way we operate this
15:53
how we lead our kids this how we lead
15:54
our lives but if we're to be walking ex
15:58
examples if we're walking testimonies
16:01
then that pressure that we have to you
16:04
know I don't say perform but to be
16:09
obedient to the calling that we have
16:12
that I think is what really motivates me
16:14
the most you know there are times where
16:16
I've seen my wife cry about certain
16:17
things and you know just the stress that
16:19
we have between you know how we going to
16:21
get this out yeah she's a big cry baby
16:24
only only in front of me look at that
16:26
only in front of me though but um but I
16:30
think about like okay well what can I do
16:34
to you know to ease that burden off of
16:35
her and if I keep focusing on what I can
16:37
do for her I'm not focusing about what's
16:39
happening with me yeah yeah you know and
16:41
I think that's the same way we think
16:43
about you know our lives is to serve so
16:45
I'll focus on the service and not so
16:47
much you know how I'm feeling in the
16:49
moment but you know the call and the
16:51
purpose I have you through it yeah I'm
16:54
I'm glad that you brought that up
16:55
because as an entrepreneur and you said
16:57
that you have a small business
16:59
listen it's not going to be easy mhm
17:01
anything that's worth getting something
17:03
is not going to be easy but you have to
17:05
find exactly what motivates you and
17:07
everybody will have a different
17:08
motivation whether it's Legacy whether
17:11
it's it's you know that you're making a
17:13
change in some Community you know
17:15
whether you want to reach a certain
17:17
level of financial you know Independence
17:19
you know you have to focus on that what
17:21
that motivating factor for you yeah you
17:23
know you have to you have to look
17:25
forward to the future that you have that
17:27
you that you know that you're to be in
17:29
what you're called to do and not what
17:31
you're going through in the present hey
17:33
hey Lori and give it give them a round
17:35
of applause you know CU they don't do
17:37
radio interviews um and so they they're
17:39
giving up a lot of information right now
17:42
and they been and it's very sincere uh I
17:44
just got to teach them how to shorten
17:45
their answers Lori um thank you you a
17:48
citizen Lori okay they just met mural
17:50
man for the first time oh yeah it's
17:54
m get him M man M man the black man is
17:59
gone I just want to make sure I tell the
18:02
people the truth okay all right he's a
18:04
super bully no problem appreciate no I
18:06
got you family all right we got Roland
18:08
on the line from San Antonio Texas go
18:10
ahead Roland rolling rolling what's up
18:13
rolling down the
18:14
riv up up up man I I want to ask what
18:19
did it take man from I'm a small
18:21
business I'm Electrical Company I'm
18:23
electrical contractor I want to know
18:25
what it take to get bigger what what
18:29
what do you do what do you do to to to
18:32
expand to grow you work and operate on
18:35
the level in which you want to be on and
18:36
not the level you're on
18:38
now I would say we've never looked at
18:40
ourselves as a small business we've
18:42
always operated as a large corporation
18:45
even with the just two before we had
18:47
employees we had we had employee manuals
18:49
we had orders operations when we have
18:51
meetings we have stand up meetings in
18:53
the morning you know if we don't have
18:55
anybody else in the office we're still
18:56
going to follow that process we're going
18:57
to go through those step steps and again
18:59
it's just walking in a certain level of
19:01
excellence and so y'all would have
19:03
meetings even if it was no one there
19:05
just y just the two of you you would
19:07
conduct it with minutes and the whole
19:09
thing format the meeting
19:11
and okay keep the meeting notes and we
19:13
reference that later on and you know we
19:15
have to have Recaps we go through a
19:17
whole pro project management process and
19:20
you know root cost analysis on simple
19:22
things that we may be going through in
19:23
the business and we we keep that process
19:25
going because what you do on this level
19:28
you know you're going to promote it's
19:29
going to grow with you so what kind of
19:33
things when you go out to get a a
19:34
business loan uh or investment what what
19:37
what kind of presentation did you create
19:39
what should people how should they
19:41
prepare and for that for that pitch what
19:43
should you include oh man so one I think
19:48
you know the first is just a short blur
19:51
of
19:52
um who you are so I think that should be
19:55
the first thing of who you are what you
19:57
do in your business business in your
19:58
pitch deck and then you will flow into
20:01
um what you're trying to solve so the
20:03
biggest thing for a pitch deck is what
20:05
you do who you are and what you're
20:07
solving yeah and showing how well you
20:09
know your industry even if you haven't
20:11
had established customers you should
20:12
know what the industry looks like um you
20:15
should be able to forecast what demand
20:17
should be and you can Benchmark that off
20:19
of other um people in your industry to
20:22
figure that out comp like comp uh comp
20:25
analysis or comparable analysis yeah
20:27
comparable comp analysis comparable
20:29
right minus the the champagne Heather
20:32
gave me I would have said that that
20:34
would have knocked that out why you keep
20:35
coming back to me I want to ask this
20:37
electrician what what is your social
20:40
media my it's called South Texas wiring
20:44
that's the name of my business and
20:46
that's the social
20:47
media yes ma'am on everything South
20:51
Texas
20:52
wiring yes is it abbreviated or spelled
20:54
out completely that's that's all
20:57
together do you do Residential or
20:59
commercial I do both okay do you also
21:03
subcontract under larger um you know for
21:06
larger
21:08
projects yes sir okay awesome because
21:11
that's the biggest thing you know even
21:12
if your name is in on the front of it
21:15
you can subcontract that you know doing
21:17
an apartment building to a skyscraper an
21:20
electrical engineer because I have
21:21
plenty of friends who own you know um
21:25
what what's Paul's company he's he has a
21:27
construction company yeah so they're
21:28
building skyscrapers they're building
21:30
all these facilities and you know having
21:33
your certifications in place so if
21:35
you're a minority um woman owned
21:37
business having no certifications having
21:39
the insurance license bonded being able
21:41
to present that a one-page document that
21:43
you can take in and not just say hey you
21:46
know I'm license bonded but being able
21:47
to present your information pleas in
21:49
case that's why you're the best
21:51
contractor to work with for this
21:52
particular project that carries so much
21:55
weight because those references is
21:58
everything in that business yeah and I
22:00
would like to suggest to you as well
22:02
citizen because I'm on your Rand Roland
22:04
I'm on your Instagram page right now so
22:08
I own a home this looks extremely
22:10
overwhelming to me and you probably do
22:13
great work but if I'm home by myself and
22:15
the power goes out and they tell me to
22:18
go check the box I don't really know
22:19
what to do and you being an experienced
22:22
guy you should do tutorials like that on
22:24
your Instagram like there are a lot of
22:27
people who are in home don't know hit
22:30
this button hit this I hit this light
22:31
this switch and then the kitchen goes
22:33
out but the bedroom is out I'm trying
22:35
like we don't know simple things
22:37
sometimes and you go to these pages in
22:39
these companies and you show I'm looking
22:41
at Mansions I'm like I don't I can't
22:44
even relate to it you know so I think
22:47
sometimes uh to to Devin's and
22:49
marquita's point like you forget about
22:52
the little people like your audience and
22:54
the people that you speaking to and if I
22:57
know I could trust you and see you like
22:59
help me do something simple I'm going to
23:01
be like well let me call my electrician
23:02
let me call this guy so don't forget
23:05
about the little people I would say you
23:07
know uh make tutorial videos that may be
23:09
101 to you but it's like a million bucks
23:11
worth the game to us yeah to he this
23:14
point because if you um hashtag whatever
23:16
your your tutorial is let's say uh light
23:18
switches or rain gutters or whatever it
23:20
is people don't even have to follow you
23:22
for them to come across your content
23:23
right so you you know you could be
23:25
helping somebody and then they could
23:26
spread the word yo I found out how to do
23:28
this by you know stumbling across this
23:30
guy's page so use social media to your
23:31
advantage it's free and it can you know
23:33
boost your profile and your social image
23:35
like incredibly yeah hey Roland you're a
23:37
citizen man congratulations
23:40

23:44
ADV than have a good day okay you too
