May 19, 2026
Saint Libory, United States - May 17, 2026 A violent large tornado moved across farmland near St. Libory, Nebraska, on May 17, 2026, as a handheld video captured the massive vortex under a dark storm-filled sky. The footage, filmed by X user Tyler Pardun, NSSL/CIWRO, shows a thick, dark wedge-shaped funnel extending from a huge low-hanging wall cloud while ripping through open fields. A massive column of dust and debris rises from the tornado’s base as the powerful vortex rotates steadily across the rural landscape. Farmhouses, trees, and tilled cropland can be seen in both the foreground and background while the camera shakes slightly and pans to follow the tornado’s movement. The video was posted with the caption: “Incredible data collection on this violent tornado from NSSL’s LiDAR, scanning genesis and occlusion near St Libory, NE earlier today #newx”. The footage was recorded during NSSL’s LIFT field campaign by meteorologist Tyler Pardun. According to the description, the LiDAR system carried out real-time, high-resolution scans of the tornado’s formation and occlusion process, providing scientific data on how violent tornadoes develop and evolve.
