US: Bear Wrestles With Trash Cans Outside Colorado Home But Fails To Get Inside.
Oct 7, 2026
Arvada, United States - September 01, 2026 A black bear wrestled with trash cans outside a home in West Arvada, repeatedly pushing and pulling at the lids but failing to get inside. Nighttime footage shows the bear working its way along a row of trash cans, testing the lids and trying different angles to reach the contents. The cans remained secured, and the bear was unable to get inside. The bear also forced open a gate while trying to reach the bins, according to accounts of the same footage. The Arvada Police Department released the video on September 2 as a warning to residents during the start of Colorado’s fall hyperphagia period, when black bears spend much of their time feeding before winter. Police urged residents to keep trash in bear-resistant containers or locked garages, bring pet food indoors, clean grills and remove bird feeders. Residents were also warned not to approach or feed bears and to leave them an escape route.
