Spain: Massive Fireball Explodes Over Catalonia Night Sky In Brilliant Mid Air Fragmentation.
Jun 25, 2026
Gavà, Spain - June 25, 2026 A bright fireball was recorded crossing the night sky, rapidly intensifying as it moved above rooftops and buildings during the early hours of June 25, 2026. The object appeared as a small light high in the sky before quickly brightening as it descended. It left behind a long glowing trail that became increasingly intense. As it continued its descent, the fireball broke apart in a dramatic fragmentation event. A powerful flash briefly illuminated nearby urban areas and distant hills, while multiple fragments continued traveling downward. Additional observations from across Catalonia and surrounding regions captured different aspects of the event. A scientific spectrum recording detected emission lines consistent with iron, magnesium, and sodium during the object’s atmospheric entry. Other footage from a forested horizon near Sant Fost de Campsentelles showed the vivid trail and breakup fragments. A distant recording from Castellón province, over 400 kilometers away, captured the fireball appearing as bright as the Moon. Further observations from stations in the Barcelona province area, Lleida province, and the Pyrenean foothills documented the intense flash and widespread visibility of the event. The fireball, designated for scientific tracking on June 25, 2026, at approximately 00:30 UTC, was recorded across multiple observation points. Combined video, spectral data, and trajectory information will be used to study its atmospheric entry and composition, as well as assess any possibility of meteorite recovery. Such multi-point recordings are used to better understand objects entering Earth’s atmosphere and to support ongoing monitoring of near-Earth material.
