Jun 4, 2026
Garres y Lages, Spain - June 02, 2026 Video filmed by X user Isidoro Martínez shows thick plumes of smoke rising from a hillside in the Los Garres pedanía of Murcia as a forest fire intensified on June 2, 2026. The accompanying post on X states: “Se empieza a complicar también por este lado. #IFLosGarres,” indicating that conditions were becoming more difficult on that side of the fire. The footage captures dense white and gray smoke steadily billowing into the sky from the affected area. The images provide a clear view of the active fire front spreading through the forested terrain near the city of Murcia. The smoke column highlights the scale of the wildfire and the difficult conditions facing emergency crews working on the ground. Authorities confirmed that the blaze, declared during the afternoon of June 2 in the pedanías of Los Garres and Lages, has burned more than 177 hectares. The fire prompted the preventive evacuation of around 100 homes because of heavy smoke and the proximity of the flames to residential areas. The regional emergency plan, Plan Infomur, was activated at situation 2. More than 300 personnel from forest brigades, firefighters, police and civil protection services were deployed to the emergency, with the Unidad Militar de Emergencias providing additional support during the night. Officials said the wildfire is evolving favorably after the fire front closest to homes was contained, although the blaze continues advancing toward areas including La Alberca.
