The city is gearing up to welcome thousands of fans from around the world as it prepares to host one of the tournament's opening fixtures next week. Co-hosted by the US, Mexico and Canada, the 2026 FIFA World Cup begins on June 11 and will feature 48 nations competing through July 19. The tournament will kick off at the historic Azteca Stadium in Mexico City on June 11 while the grand finale will take place at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19. Mexico will become the first country to host the men's World Cup for the third time. The iconic Azteca Stadium previously hosted the finals of the 1970 and 1986 tournaments.
