More than 100 of these China-made light rail trains have been put into fully operation across Mexico and are expected to offer transportation services for more than 1.25 million passengers every day during the course of the five-week event. The expanded 2026 tournament is set to be the biggest ever World Cup, featuring a record number of 48 teams and seeing the competition hosted by three nations for the first time, with matches taking place in Mexico, Canada and the United States from June 11 to July 19. Mexico will stage 13 matches during the tournament, with games taking place in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey. The 115 light rail trains, manufactured by a Chinese company, are showcasing Chinese rail technology in a green, intelligent and efficient manner. The China-developed light rail will crucially link the center of Mexico City with the famous Azteca Stadium, which will host Thursday's historic opening game. To adapt to Mexico City's high-altitude environment of more than 2,200 meters above sea level as well as its rainy season conditions, the trains are equipped with regenerative braking technology and low-noise ventilation systems, which improve operational efficiency while reducing energy consumption and noise. "The train is a transportation option that makes it easy to get to the World Cup, and to go downtown, so you can enjoy Mexico City. It's easy to access, comfortable, and has advantages; Now it's very quiet," said Paula Savara, a local resident who was riding on the rail. "It's an easy way to get around. It's a new train.
